However, my business started four years before then and keeping my maiden name for photography is a special way to hold onto that piece of me. I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas! Ours involved none of our original plans after our son got influenza and pneumonia but goodness did it make my momma heart grateful in a whole new way. Watching a loved one suffer is one of the hardest things and God sent that little baby into this broken world knowing everything he would suffer. What a sacrificial and beautiful love our Father has for us.

Grateful to have been reminded of that truth this Christmas amidst all the prescriptions and Kleenex and so thankful to have our boy up and running around again!

Winter weddings are some of my favorites. Truly, all you need are some hand warmers and a studio rental (or in this case the top floor of and their simple white wall and wood floors).

So thankful for a beautiful new layer of snow for tomorrow - my last wedding of the year!

“I’m a photographer and I still couldn’t tell the difference!”
“Haha I was horrible at telling what was flash and what wasn’t”

Anyone else feel this way after taking the quiz on my stories yesterday about flash vs no flash?

I heard so many responses like this and honestly, it was so encouraging! I love when flash images look so natural that they don’t look like artificial light. Obviously there are times like the dance floor or a super dark reception space that that isn’t the goal but overall it is what I aim for. I’m so grateful for each of you for giving your answers! Did anyone get all of them correct? If so, let me know because you deserve some major applause!

Still trying to figure out if this was October 16 or November 16. You could not have asked for a better November day in Michigan this past Saturday - zero wind, pockets of fall color left on the trees, and soft overcast skies all day long. Combine that with the sweetest couple ever, a beautiful venue, amazing planner and this magic happens.

Hello! It’s been a long time (like years) since I introduced myself on here, but I’m Rachel and I am a follower of Jesus. My often fearful and self-critical spirit finds peace and worth in Him alone.

I am deeply obsessed with my husband, Payton, and this June we will have been married a decade! To celebrate we will be renewing our vows on our favorite Greek Island. Payton is an eternal optimist who loves others selflessly and is both athletic and attractive and constant and more than I ever could deserve in a man.

Don’t even get me started on our three children. Zion Marc is five and has his Daddy’s blue eyes and tender heart. Roman Hope (Romie/Ro-Ro/etc) is three and she loves reading to her sister and anything purple. Mercy Khea is one and is fiercely independent and adores her grandmas (who she is named after).

I am a perfectionist who values relationships and dark chocolate chips. I play on a recreational volleyball team most of the year. I told my parents in eighth grade that I wanted to be a wedding photographer and 17 years later I have photographed over 300 weddings and am living my dream come true.

Thank you all for sharing in the excitement regarding the announcement I made last week about me attending a luxury photography retreat in France later this year! These past few weeks have been a blur of planning, obsessing over gear and outfits, while still staying on pace with the shooting and editing of a Michigan fall season. I’m overwhelmed with gratitude for this life and its opportunities and cannot wait to take you along with me on my travels!

Shoutout to my sisters & for being my travel companions and hopefully content creators along the way!

I remember being in labor at the hospital with our second baby and finding out she was breach and I needed a c-section. Obviously I was willing to do whatever was best for baby, but I would be lying if I said this wedding wasn’t on my mind. It was scheduled for just over a month later and I was scared that my body might not be recovered that soon after a major surgery. Fast forward and everything went beautifully. I had the best assistant - .fik - who carried all of my heavy bags and wasn’t afraid to scold me if I was pushing it too hard or not drinking enough water.

This is so much more than a job to me. Each of my couples has my heart and more than anything, I desire to show up and serve and deliver the most wonderful experience and images possible. And because I want to encourage all you photographer mommas out there that you are capable and your body is amazing (but don’t be afraid to ask for help either).
