Ellie spends much of her time online, connecting with some of the scariest people on the internet, hoping to expose the real people behind the hate and misinformation they spread. Eight Seconds will make you think about how you see the world, the information you absorb and believe, and how we relate to each other as a result of those beliefs. Part exploration of the darkest side of humanity and part crime drama, the story will leave you asking, “What will I do with my eight seconds?”

Pay: None

Character Breakdown:

ELLIE DONNER – Female. Mid-20s to Mid-30s. Very independent and head strong. Smart with a sense of humor that can tend towards sarcastic and even rude. Very committed to social justice and that commitment can cause her to be blind to other factors. Spends her time fighting back against hate online.

STEVE - Male. Mid-20s. Very concerned with his physical looks and status with women. A loner. Foul-mouthed with a hatred of women in general. Spends his time online talking with others who share his point of view. An Incel (Involuntary Celibate).

CHRIS - Male and Female (role is played by two different actors at different times). Mid-40s. A White Supremacist. Professional and well educated. Does not swear or use crass language. Good at manipulating others.

CARL - Male. Mid-50s to Early-60s. Good sense of humor. Very affable and likable. Strong commitment to his beliefs. A conspiracy nut who believes the world is flat.

AGENT ROGERS. Female. Mid-40s to Mid-50s. A well-seasoned federal agent who stays cool under pressure. Her maturity and experience give her a high level of confidence in herself and how she does her work. She is not easily baited.

AGENT COLLAZO. Male. Mid-30s. Hispanic. A younger agent who is competent but tends to react to pressure emotionally. He tends to use emotions to get to suspects that he is questioning. He and agent Rogers have been partners for eight years.

Much Ado About Nothing opens at Golden West College in Huntington Beach!

The Golden West College Theater Arts Department, under the direction of Martie Ramm, is proud to present Shakespeare’s original romantic comedy Much Ado About Nothing. This timeless classic set in 2025 opens this Friday November 14 and will grace the stage in the Golden West College Mainstage Theater through Sunday November 23.

Tickets are available now through the GWC Theater Arts website: www.gwctheater.com or can be purchased at the theater box office one hour before each performance.

Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing is packed with snarky banter, ridiculous misunderstandings, and a love story that only happens because of some well-placed eavesdropping. Watch as sharp-tongued rivals Beatrice and Benedick—two experts in the fine art of mockery—get tricked into falling head over heels in love, while another plot threatens to tear young lovers Hero and Claudio apart. With gossip, disguises, and just the right amount of chaos, this timeless tale of love, deception, and redemption proves that in matters of the heart, nothing is ever quite as it seems! This is Shakespeare at his funniest.

Featuring a dynamic 28-member cast, the production stars Kristin Nemecek and Salvatore Messina as Beatrice and Benedick, with Benjamin Rasmussen and Catherine Dosier as Claudio and Hero. Featured roles include Andrew Tyrell-Smith (Don Pedro), Brendan Beach (Leonato), Jonathan West (Don John), and Ian Pedersen (Dogberry).

Ramm’s contemporary reimagining of Shakespeare’s Messina transports the story to 2025, where love unfolds through text messages, gossip spreads via viral videos, and social media masquerades replace masked balls. Despite the modern setting, the play’s timeless themes of love, humor, deception, and forgiveness remain at its heart.

“Even in the digital age, Shakespeare’s insight into human nature feels startlingly fresh and funny,” says director Martie Ramm. “The technology may change, but the way we fall in love—and the way we hurt each other—never does.”

Much Ado About Nothing blends sharp wit and heartfelt emotion, reminding audiences that, even centuries later, the human heart hasn’t evolved as much as our smartphones have.

Sign language interpreted performance of MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING scheduled for Saturday November 22 at 7:30pm. Please contact GWC Box office at 714-895-8150 to purchase tickets in the appropriate section.
