This year’s Marshall University School of Music High School Honor Band Festival was such a huge success! It was such an honor working with Phillip Vallejo to bring in a team of clinicians to the tri-state area to work with some outstanding high school students.

Many, many thanks to guest clinicians Dr. Jason Casper, Dr. Myra Rhoden, (almost Dr.) Garrett Griffin, and guest composer Nicole Piunno for all of their expertise, wisdom, positive energy, and sense of humor they brought to the 2024 MUHSHBF.

We hope all the high school band directors involved had a wonderful time and enjoyed themselves while on campus. Even more-so, we hope that their students had an even better time.

This year’s festival included:
An outstanding concert from Boyd County High School (under John Johnson) and the Marshall University Wind Symphony, masterclasses for all sections, three clinician workshops for the directors, a great concert by the Marshall University Symphonic Band and Marching Thunder, a Q&A session with Nicole Piunno, and finished with three outstanding honor band performances.

Thanks you to all the students and directors involved, Marshall’s Kappa Kappa Psi chapter, our graduate assistants, and the SoM faculty and staff for a hugely successful event. And of course thank you to Phil Vallejo for his leadership throughout this entire event. I look forward to the next one!

Dylan will perform the first movement of Beethoven's 3rd Piano Concerto and Emma will perform Bizet's "Ouvre ton coeur" with the Marshall University Symphony Orchestra on its April 17th concert.
