An amazing wedding season for Kaylyn and I in Humboldt. The Opps ❤️ and how about that black wedding dress?! Handing Cameron my camera was probably one of my favorite parts of the day. Not only does he have the footing to be a camera opp (get it?) but being able to see through HIS eyes how he sees Rachele, you can feel the love.

This was really awesome. As most of you have seen, I’ve been swooning over these new anamorphic lenses that I got recently from .official. I got this shot of these two walking off into the sunset and this is a photo of me showing them the result. I rarely get to see reactions from couples to my work and having this captured means the world.

“Oh my gosh, I’m so glad we hired a videographer” 🥹

For the nerds, it was shot 6k 12:1 on the 45 mil Remus.

This was a really beautiful moment right before the first look. We arrived well before the bride did and just stood in the rain listening to the waves brush the shore. The birds chirping with excitement for what was about to take place and that first rain smell 👏 So much peace even with a little bit of nerves 😉

I know there’s this culture in the wedding industry of photographers/videographers freaking out over it raining “my gear. In my contract it clearly states. It’s a hazard” and it makes me laugh a little. When I was a Boy Scout, I learned “always be prepared” and that applies to this day. Bring an umbrella, bring rain ponchos and also have insurance if need be. You can’t ask for better production value like this. Now I get if a tornado is happening, run for your lives. Understandable. Even then, I would probably wait it out as long as I could for the shot 😂

“You’re letting it run all day?” Yes, we leave microphones running all day long 😂 I get this question ALL the time and wanted to address some concerns with that here.

1️⃣ There is absolutely nothing you could say that would shock me in any way shape or form. In my line of work, I’ve heard it all.

2️⃣ I never use anything incriminating in any wedding film 😂 It gets deleted immediately.

3️⃣ The reason we leave microphones on all day is simple. We end up getting some amazing conversations throughout the day that add the zest and spices we need in the edit.

4️⃣ Do you need to wear a mic? No. But if you actually want to remember how the day really felt, then I strongly suggest yes. I even put one on myself just in case 😂

Getting those interviews in for the wedding film 🎥 🎬

It’s natural to get nervous when you hear “interview” but it’s honestly harmless and not as scary as you would think. The way I learned to conduct interviews for doc work and wedding films is it’s a conversation. That’s all. Just two people learning each other with a camera or two to capture the goodness.
