Lake Tahoe threw us a curveball with these icy winds! ❄️

Thankfully, love found a way (and a slightly less windy spot ). Huge congrats to these two on their engagement!

Her “yes” was filled with so much joy, and it’s clear their love is built to weather any storm. Here’s to a lifetime of laughter, adventures, and unwavering devotion.

Looking back on this first dance at V. Sattui Winery on a warm September evening.

Even though the dance floor was inside, this fun couple opted for a twirl under the stars.

As the sun dipped below the horizon and the string lights cast a warm glow, their song came on, and the first dance began. To capture this twilight scene, I knew I needed a wider perspective.

So, I climbed the second set of stairs, balancing carefully on the railing (don’t worry, safety first!).

This vantage point allowed me to frame the entire scene - the beautiful venue, the guests, and the couple lost in their own world.

This photo earned a Gold Medallion Award from the Wedding Photojournalist Association (huge honor!)

Before the last snowflakes vanish, I wanted to share a glimpse from a truly heartwarming surprise proposal I photographed recently.

This adventurous couple loves hiking the trails at Northstar Resort during their summer visits. Naturally, our initial plan was to capture this moment on their favorite section of the Tomkins Memorial Trail (T.M.T.).

Mountain weather can be unpredictable, however. A snowstorm rolled through just before their trip, making their favorite area inaccessible. My scouting mission confirmed this – deep snow and no clear trail.

Knowing their love for scenic locations, I was able to suggest an alternative spot – easily accessible, with beautiful views of Northstar, and guaranteed privacy for this special moment.

As a wedding photographer who’s witnessed many proposals lately, winter offers a unique opportunity for couples seeking a dramatic backdrop of snow-capped peaks and crisp mountain air.

The value of capturing a beautiful moment truly never expires!

I’m thrilled that some of my photos recently earned recognition in the WPJA’s new contest for past work.

I’ve always been proud of these images, and it meant so much to have 6 of them receive “Spotlight Awards” in the 1st Round.

It’s a great motivator to keep honing my skills and it reinforces my belief in the importance of capturing timeless moments.

As Alan Watts said, “reality itself is gorgeous.”

This adventurous couple travelled all the way across the country to get married here, and I knew we had to capture them surrounded by the incredible backdrop of Lake Tahoe.

So, I whisked them away to one of my favorite scenic spots for an epic portrait with a view.

Why get married in Lake Tahoe?

The majestic peaks of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, aptly nicknamed the “Range of Light,” have long captivated couples seeking a breathtaking backdrop for their weddings.

As a wedding photographer right here in Lake Tahoe, I witness this magic firsthand.

This photo is from an elopement in Truckee. The bride and groom wanted a dedicated portrait session somewhere with views. I said, “I know just the spot!”

Over the next few posts, I’ll be sharing a glimpse of this natural beauty through a collection of photos from my clients’ special days.

This image was recognized by a panel of judges at the WPJA Artistic Guild for showcasing exceptional creativity, composition, and lighting.

If you can believe it, there is a Proposal and Engagement season here in Tahoe. And it’s happening right now!

For anyone that got engaged during the holidays, now is a great time for photos. The March sun is warming things up, and the snow-capped mountains make a gorgeous backdrop.

If you’re not engaged yet, what are you waiting for?! 😜💍🥳

In addition to photographing this big moment (incognito, of course), I often help with planning as well.

Since I live in Tahoe, I can easily scout locations and recommend the best timing. We still have a lot of snow still on the ground, and many parking areas remain closed.

Knowing all this in advance is key for the proposal to go smoothly.

At this recent proposal, the couple’s dog was an important part of the surprise. Our timing was perfect with beautiful morning light, zero crowds, and the deep blue color of Lake Tahoe that we all love.

In the early days of my photography career, I found myself constantly on the move, trying to capture fleeting moments.

But with hundreds of weddings under my belt, I’ve come to realize that the most special moments aren’t found by chasing – they’re discovered by trusting your intuition, anticipating the flow of events, and being present in the moment.

This shift has allowed me to capture authentic connections and genuine emotions that couples cherish for years to come.

It’s a simple concept, but a never ending challenge.

“A Boy, a Dog, and a Black Wedding Dress”.

A wedding can mean lots of emotions. Especially when your parents are getting married.

At a sweet backyard elopement in Tahoe, this little guy’s story inspired me.
