This week's Film Club pick is "Pretty Woman" featuring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts! Join us this Tuesday, February 4 at 7 PM to watch and discuss this iconic film. Here are five fun facts about the movie:
1. Richard Gere and Julia Roberts had obvious chemistry upon their first meeting; however, Gere was not planning on taking the role. He was on the phone ready to turn down the part when Roberts slid him a Post-it note with the words "please say yes" written on it. He accepted the role right then.
2. Richard Gere is actually playing the piano, and also composed the piece of music he plays.
3. In the dinner scene where Vivian flings the snail across the room, the waiter who catches it says, "It happens all the time." Director Garry Marshall threw the snail himself over many shots before the actor caught the snail convincingly. He then cast the same actor in The Princess Diaries (2001) and The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004) years later and gave him the same line.
4. While shooting the scene in which Vivian lies down on the floor of Edward's penthouse watching old I Love Lucy (1951) re-runs, Garry Marshall tickled Julia Roberts's feet (out of camera range) to get her to laugh so hysterically.
5. The necklace that Vivian wears to the opera really cost $250,000. While filming, a security man from the jewelry store equipped with a gun was constantly standing behind the director.
