Happy Tuesday, Antiquated Aritists!
One of the coolest things we have the privilege of doing is typewriter maintenance for the Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library. There’s paper loaded so the museumgoer can leave messages on the same model typewriters that Vonnegut used. Someone left this important message for you!

To learn more about this writer’s legacy and try your hand typing the next great novel/poem, check out the Vonnegut exhibit on loan to Brown County Public Library.

Comment ⬇️ the make and model of the typewriter on loan to the KVML from his family, and these internet bonus points are yours! Your hint is in the picture. 😉

So, how are your feet doing today?
Check to make sure your typewriter will support itself and work properly with new feet!

Check out the following video from AAS typehead KC Chan-Brose to see how easy changing them out can be, and where you can find new shoes for your agéd friend. Don’t forget to like and subscribe to KC’s page! She’s let us know there will be more typer videos in the future.

Happy Typing!

This week, Siren’s in DC. But (of course) typewriters are always close by!

Check out a few captures from the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, where some of the tools and recordings of revolutionary Black voices in American culture are on display.

Siren’s recommendation: This museum is packed dense with interactive exhibits and tours in an accessible layout. If you’re walking, make sure to bring comfortable shoes and something to drink— there are six floors and you’ll want to see them all!

It’s June 23rd— Happy National Typewriter Day! If you have a selfie with your typewriter(or a friend’s… we won’t tell) drop it below to show how YOU celebrate. 👇

Today Antiquated Arts Society is celebrating the revolutionary power of typewriters, working in support of Ujamaa Community Bookstore at the National conference for Pedagogy & Theatre of the Oppressed, Inc.

Tomorrow, we give a workshop on Poetry on Demand as a community support and relief practice— but make sure you hit up today’s workshops, and stop by the booths! There’s too much good learning to pass up.

Happy Typing! Write history!

We’re so happy we got to see you at Granfalloon 2023! Thanks for stopping by our booth and supporting our fellow vendors. Much love to Indiana University for inviting Antiquated Arts Society to help celebrate Kurt Vonnegut’s legacy!

Below are just a few of the people who worked our fleet yesterday. Please feel free to tag and share your picture; we’d love to stay in touch.

Speaking of which— so many visitors asked us about getting a typewriter of their own. As you search for your new typing friend, please let us know if we can help. Our next event will be a typewriter sale at Ujamaa Community Bookstore this weekend! Details soon to be posted.

Things are already hopping at the Granfalloon Festival here in Bloomington. How about you— How you ever used a typewriter? What did you get to use it for?

We get a healthy mix of nostalgic and traumatized reactions from our fellow typeheads (remember that eighth grade typing class?) but plenty of enthusiasm for the timeless technologies of creativity among all ages.

We use typers in our work as writers and educators— we haul our little portable friends across the states to classrooms, weddings, and (YES) Street festivals!

If you’re game for some Clickety-Clackity today, take a look at some of our visitors typing away the today’s booth— tag and share if you see yourself in the pics… We want to say hi!

We stand in solidarity with Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library against vandalism, and for anti-censorship & free speech— including discussion and reading of challenged/banned books. While the investigation for this incident is ongoing, we ask that our friends and followers support this museum that continues the work in Vonnegut’s legacy by donating at:

https://www.vonnegutlibrary.org/donate

Antiquated Arts Society— which is both veteran and LGBTQ+ owned— has worked with maintenance of the Museum’s typewriters, and held type-ins at KVML to celebrate the life and legacy of Kurt Vonnegut. Donating to KVML helps support our Indianapolis literary communities and preservation of humanity.

Some at the museum believe the vandalism was related to the organization’s newsletter that went out Wednes...

We brought 23 of the finest from our fleet to South Ripley High School with Heather Reichert! See any of your favorite typers in our lineup?

During typewriter workshops, we discuss 20th Century history and culture, orientation to the typewriters, and how certain evolved to be included (or taken away) with the use of computers. We also talk about creative prompts and modern art using typewriters.

Stay tuned for more pics later today!
