AOB Division Clarification
We have been getting questions on what qualifies for the new AOB Division at Hoosier Beef Congress and for the IJBCA Finest Points Series Shows.
All Other Breeds (AOB)
The All Other Breeds (AOB) division is open to animals that are registered with a National Breed Association, but do not qualify under one of the other recognized breed divisions. Animals that are disqualified from competing in one of the recognized breeds are not eligible to compete in the AOB Division.
Steers: Must be registered with a National Breed Association and have matching tattoos. Steers will show by weight with all breeds showing together.
Heifers: Must be registered with a National Breed Association and have matching tattoos. Heifers will show by age with all breeds showing together.
For additional clarification; If the set of papers that you present for your animal at check in qualify them for a recognized breed, they will show in that breed.
Some potential examples;
- Composite Chianina heifers qualify to show in the Chi division,
- Limflex registered heifers qualify to show in the Limousin division,
- Balancer registered heifers qualify to show in the Gelbvieh division,
Registered animals that will qualify for the AOB division include but are certainly not limited to;
- this year only Maine-Angus heifers can choose to shoe in either AOB or Mainetainer divisions
- Low Percentage registered animals that do not qualify for that particular breed division (1/4 and 3/8 blood Simmy or Shorthorn heifers, percentage Red Angus heifers, etc.)
- breeds not recognized (Aberdeen Angus, British White, Murray Grey, Devon, Pinzgauer, Tarentaise, etc.)
- unfortunately we still have a no horns rule at HBC so at this time, Highlands that have their horns intact are not eligible
We will also ask that if your calf is registered with one of the breed associations that require membership in their state organization to exhibit at HBC, that you pay those breed dues as well.
Feel free to send an email to [email protected] if you have additional questions not answered above about whether your animal will qualify for the AOB division.
