Yo! was a huge success. Listen I don’t take this DJ stuff lightly. You wanna know how divine this Gig was and is??? Well that building /venue / church is where my Dear Mothers funeral was. So this the last venue my momma was at before she touched dirt. So its at a little emotional but she know what her baby boy has! Sounds by DJ LOW 🫡🎶🎶 let’s gooooo!

Tonight! I am honored by ~Little Dresses for Africa ~The Big Dinner ~ this years theme “Helping Dreams Come True” This will be my 4th yr providing the sounds for an amazing fundraiser auction event. The organizations Mission : To provide relief to vulnerable children throughout the Continent of Africa and beyond. Founded (2008) by Rachel O’Neill, LDFA is a registered non-profit 501c3 Christian organization. One of LDFA proudest is provided over 140 working wells providing fresh water resources.

The year was 2015 and this was my first chance as a real DJ. My first time alone and it was a Corporate Event with 300 guests. Well let me tell you that “I stunk up the place” and it didn’t go as well like I planned. The first mistake I made was using a 27” iMac. It makes me either cringe or laugh to this very day. I was nervous but through it all it made me who I AM today. It taught me a lesson about preparation as a DJ and knowing your music. The biggest lesson was about believing in myself through this experience. So I didn’t complain I simply pushed through and got better.

Let’s fast forward to 2024. The stages are bigger , better and I’ve bloomed with incredible confidence and dope jams! I really appreciate the craft every time I spin. 🎧🎶I would like to say THANK YOU to anyone I’ve worked with, still work with and haven’t work with. Let’s keep the music frequency high and remember it’s party time!

Here are 5 👋🏾 things I do before each DJ gig. Leave a comment about what you do to prepare for your gigs as a DJ. 🎧

✅ Ask questions about the event.

1. It’s really important to learn the details of an event. I specifically like to know if there is a “theme” for the event. That way my wardrobe and curated playlist fits the vibe.

✅ Create an item checklist for equipment or gear.

2. There is no feeling worse than forgetting an item you need for a gig. It can be a cord, flash drive, document or even a laptop. Staying organized can help you eliminate these possibilities.

✅ Directions & Weather

3. Plan ahead your travel route. Traffic updates can save you time and hassle. Weather can change in a moments notice. I’ve damaged equipment to (rain) for not checking the weather report.

✅ Create a set list

4. Every DJ plans for their parties different. Whether you stick to a rigid playlist. Or you leave room for an open format. Remember you’re the VIBE as the DJ. Read the room and play the best songs you have.

✅ Check In

5. Communication is vital when it comes to events and special days. With such an important roll as a contractor for other companies. Or simply checking in with a client helps. It allows opportunity for “last minute” requests and possible reminders.
