Theatre Instructor, Tricia Stogsdill will start her fifth season at American Players Theatre in one week! Stogsdill travels to the renowned theatre in Wisconsin every summer to work in the Wig Shop. APT sees over 100,000 visitors during its 9 show season, and The Wall Street Journal has declared the theatre “the finest classical repertory theatre in the U.S.” Faculty that work professionally at the highest levels and stay current in their industry, just another reason to choose Allen!

Today we said “Bon Voyage” to our favorite sailor and Scene Shop Manager, Roger Carlin! As he sails into retirement after 6 years with Allen Theatre and Film, we sure will miss him; not only for his beautiful work, but for his humor and positivity! We wish him all the best!

Meet the Harvey cast! Tiago Cortes plays Dr. William Chumley, the imposing head of the sanitarium Chumley’s Rest. Tiago comes to us from Brazil 🇧🇷 and does incredible work both on and off the stage! You’ve seen his KCACTF Region V award-winning Scenic Design for The How and the Why, and he also wowed audiences as BOTH the scenic designer and one of the performers in our student film! For Harvey he was pulling double duty in the scene shop every day assisting our Scenic Designer John Leahy and our Scene Shop Manager Roger Carlin in addition to his role! As a performer he is hard-working and so talented! Although he often plays mean/scary characters, Tiago is actually one of the nicest, most positive people you could meet! He’s a real leader in our program!

Meet the Harvey cast! Today is Austin Morris’s birthday! 🎂 Austin plays our tough guy orderly at the sanitarium, Duane Wilson. You’ve definitely been wowed by Austin’s performances in the past, most notably as Jonathan Larson in tick, tick…BOOM! last spring. This show is a bit different, but Austin is fantastic just the same! You won’t want to miss him this weekend April 26-28 at the Bowlus Fine Arts Center!

Do you want to see a fun, goofy show and support the Allen Theatre & Film Department? Well then sign up to catch a ride to the Bowlus Fine Arts Center this weekend! A sign up sheet will be in the Bookstore Thursday and Friday!

Tickets to the show are FREE for Allen Students and Staff and the college is offering a free ride across town for anyone interested in supporting your friends and fellow classmates in the show! Below is a description of the show, for those unfamiliar!

So come into the bookstore to sign up and we will see you there!

"Harvey" is the story of Elwood P. Dowd, a sweet but strange man who insists his best friend is a six-foot-tall white rabbit and his sister Veta Simmons, who has had enough of Elwood and Harvey's shenanigans and hatches a plan to get Elwood committed to an institution. But things go awry when the doctors believe she is the one who sees Harvey, not Elwood! Set in the late 1940's, this stylized romp is over the top funny and full of heart!

Meet the Harvey cast! Mariah Stackhouse plays Myrtle Mae Simmons, daughter of Veta, niece of Elwood. Myrtle is looking for love but finding it hard to overcome her embarrassing uncle. She’s awkward, bratty, and hilarious! Mariah is a multi-talented actress, designer, and nursing student. You saw Mariah’s award-winning costumes in The How and the Why, and I’m sure she’s made you laugh as our Improv Club Vice President! This is her 5th show as a performer, but Mariah has also been a Director and an Assistant Stage Manager at Allen! When we said multi-talented we meant it!

Many of our scenes in Harvey are set in the Library of the Dowd Estate, and we have a storybook concept, so do we put regular books on the bookshelves?! Of course not! We have so many super talented artists in the cast and crew that each book and knick knack was hand drawn and painted by a member of ICT or Allen Theatre and Film! See their artistry in action April 26-28 at the Bowlus Fine Center!

Meet the Harvey Cast! Nic Olson plays Elwood P. Dowd, our sweet and generous protagonist! Nic is an Allen Theatre alum, and actually was the lead in fellow Allen Theatre alum and current Director Tricia Stogsdill’s directorial debut when they were students together! He did a great job then, and he’s only gotten better with age! Nic is not only a powerhouse performer/writer/creative, he truly embodies the kindness of Elwood through and through! We are so fortunate to have Nic leading our show!

The Theatre and Film Department doesn’t just put on shows…Sometimes we help our Scene Shop Manager Roger Carlin make a set of columns so Terri Houser Carlin's third grade class can have an extra special lesson on Ancient Rome! So happy to bring some joy to the kids at Iola Elementary!
