Allen Theatre & Film Department Allen Theatre and Film provides a high-quality theatre education and film production experience!

Allen Theatre produces four to five shows a year, while also producing a show as part of the Allen Summer Theatre organization. We have classes in acting, stagecraft, voice & diction and improvisation that will give you a solid foundation in theatre skills. Allen CC is part of the Kansas Regent's system of higher education, preparing students for transfer to universities in Kansas and elsewhere.

We have some exciting news to share! Each year we participate in the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Region 5, and this year we’re coming back bigger and better than ever! We have almost tripled our participation in the competition, from 5 entries last year to 14 THIS YEAR! We are taking a record number of students (8) and are competing in some categories for the first time in Allen history!
We have entered:
2 Playwrights*-Molly Riebel and Divine Mensah
2 Makeup Designs*-Brynn Walker
2 Costume Designs-Brynn Walker
1 Sound Design*-Gabe Wight
1 Promotional/Marketing Campaign*-Jay Johnson
1 Props Artisan Project*-Divine Mensah
1 Stage Management- Molly Riebel
4 Acting-Brigham Folk, Gabe Wight, Jeffrey Bussanmas, and Ainsley Weiss

Students had to perform/present at our Showcase successfully to be considered and everyone did a great job! They will continue to work on their projects over the break and then travel with us to Des Moines, IA on January 19th-25th to take part in the week-long festival! There students will present their work to industry professional adjudicators and get feedback. The week also has workshops and regional productions for the students to attend. It is an INCREDIBLE opportunity for growth as a theatre artist and we’re so lucky to have the support from Allen to attend! Hopefully 🤞 we can bring home some awards again this year!

So many artists in our community contribute to making ATF great, offering their incredible services and their great energy! More to celebrate! Our very own ATF student Rain Burleson is graduating this semester, so we wanted to take some time to celebrate all Rain has done with us while at Allen. She’s helped to run the sound board, been on wardrobe, but is probably most known for her incredible acrobatics onstage in Fugue, our original student film The Ocean Inside, and most recently as a creepy Victorian ghost in The Woman in Black. Truly multi-talented! We will miss her humor and the amazing donuts she makes to celebrate every show, but we wish her all the best!

We’ve wrapped up the semester, but we still have lots of people and things to celebrate 🎉 First up is our Costume Shop Manager, Ashley Marie Shaughnessy! She really makes ATF look and feel welcoming! Ashley designed and executed our Program Board (shown here), our Lobby Display for our Fall Production, and even orchestrated our Holiday Party! That on top of the stellar work she does in our Costume Shop! She always goes above and beyond, like stepping in to help run our scene shop this semester before we got our Tech Director, and we couldn’t be more grateful for her work! Next Semester she will be designing the costumes for The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) [revised] (again) and you won’t want to miss it!
