Allen Theatre & Film Department Allen Theatre and Film provides a high-quality theatre education and film production experience!

Allen Theatre produces four to five shows a year, while also producing a show as part of the Allen Summer Theatre organization. We have classes in acting, stagecraft, voice & diction and improvisation that will give you a solid foundation in theatre skills. Allen CC is part of the Kansas Regent's system of higher education, preparing students for transfer to universities in Kansas and elsewhere.

Yesterday ATF students Divine Mensah and Gabe Wight presented their technical theatre work at the DTM Expo! Our Incredible Costume Shop Manager Ashley Shaughnessy always goes above and beyond, but for The Woman in Black she really outdid herself with the haunting and beautiful lobby display! She truly created an immersive experience for our audience that brought them into the world of the play from the moment they set foot into the building, and the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Region V awarded her a Certificate of Merit for Lobby Display! MORE AWARDS! 🏆🎉 Our Director of Theatre & Film loves to set lofty goals for the program: Last year we were awarded 9 Certificates of Merit at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Region V, so this year, we set a “crazy” goal of 15….Well we blew that goal out of the water with 16 CERTIFICATES this year, almost DOUBLING our awards from last year! FIVE of those were awarded to our very own Director of Theatre & Film, Tricia Stogsdill. She was awarded for achievement in both Direction and Scenic/Properties Design for The Woman in Black this past fall, as well as a Lighting Design award for last spring’s student film The Ocean Inside. She shared a Film Production award with the students as well as a Sound Design award with recent grads Nautianna Goforth and Maddie Hodgden! One thing is for certain, Tricia works tirelessly to help the students’ work ✨shine✨ , and it pays off!

Last year at Festival 56 former Red Devil Tiago Cortes won the Regional Award in Scenic Design at the Design Expo, this year he continued his tradition of excellence with a Certificate of Merit for his Scenic Design of the student film The Ocean Inside! Maddie Hodgden received a Certificate of Merit in Directing for their work on the student film The Ocean Inside and Maddie and the entire Ensemble won for their incredible Devising! We’re not even close to done celebrating our award winners! When unforeseen circumstances arose during tech, Molly Riebel stepped up to lead our show, calling almost 200 cues in 90 minutes for The Woman in Black! If you saw the show and were impressed with how everything seemed to time out perfectly, that was all thanks to Molly, who received a Certificate of Merit for Assistant Stage Management at the KCACTF Region V! 🌟

Allen Theatre & Film had a great time at the Kansas Thespians Festival! We hosted TWO Improv Workshops where we taught over 100 students, and we talked to hundreds of young theatre artists about all the opportunities at Allen!
