We're excited to announce auditions for two of Willow Creek's house improv teams!
Willow Creek is looking for improvisers for our flagship team, Lady Franklyn, as well as a brand new HAROLD team, coached by the talented Robin Johnstone. No need to prepare anything! Just show up to one or both of the audition dates (Dec 4th and 5th from 7-9pm) at Willow Creek Theatre (327 S Gilbert St, Iowa City) ready to have fun!
While current and former Willow Creek Improv Conservatory students will receive priority team placement, everyone interested in joining an improv team is encouraged to audition.
About Lady Franklyn:
Practice Times- Sundays from 4:30-6:30 pm
Show Times- Saturdays at 7:30 pm
Lady Franklyn is Willow Creek's first house team, as well as Iowa City's first professional team. Their sets are largely freeform, and last anywhere from half an hour to an hour. The team relies heavily on strong social bonds to allow them to continue to experiment with their style, and make bold moves in a supportive environment. Ideal Lady Franklyn team members are well rounded players, who enjoy learning new skills, and approach new challenges with enthusiasm.
About The HAROLD:
Practice Times: Saturday afternoons (Exact time TBD)
The HAROLD is one of the earliest iterations of what is now called long-form improvisation, originated by The Committee but further explored by Del Close, the visionary of IO Theater. Though it has evolved over the half century of its existence, we will study and perform the version developed by Close and his students. The form embodies an exploration driven by an audience suggestion that uses a combination of scene and game to explore a world constructed out of the original suggestion. For the audition, we are looking to fill a team with six to eight members who are interested in advanced methods of improvising. While long-form experience is strongly suggested, we will consider the potential of newer improvisers with a strong desire to learn. Performances will begin after at least one month of rehearsals, depending on progress. Players are asked to pay their coach $10 for each two-hour practice.
