Dickie: Live Saturday, March 29th at The James Theater

It’s not too late to reserve your tickets to Dick Prall and his 5-piece band tomorrow night at The James Theater! Promising to be an intimate night of Iowa grown music, this show is a great addition to any of your Saturday night plans!

Dick Prall is a master of what a recent interviewer called “self-deprecating indie rock.” For almost a decade, the 55-year-old Iowa artist has been best known as Dickie, the loving nickname that his late mother bestowed on him before she passed away in 2013. Dickie’s newest release, the Headful of Hiss EP, is a gleaming testament to his ever-strengthening gifts as a songwriter, spanning lush folk, irresistibly catchy pop, yearning alternative, windswept heartland rock, and the timeless sensibility of ’60s classics.

This Sunday, River Glen and Band is producing a live studio album at the James Theater! We hope to see you Sunday, December 8th at 4:30pm! Tickets available online.

Building from the momentum of their 2023 release “As Above, So Below”, which features 150+ singers/musicians from Iowa, as well as being named Iowa Public Radio’s Artist of the Month for October 2023, River Glen & His Band are set to deliver their final performance of the year on Sunday, December 8th at The James Theater in Iowa City. With support from Cedar Falls favorites Joel Sires Trio and Dubuque’s own Wxlley, attendees can expect a program of original music that’s a blend of conscious folk-pop, folk-rock, and hip-hop that will both move listeners & have them moving and grooving to a generous serving of flashy musicianship and powerhouse vocals. This special all-ages performance is also a live album recording in collaboration with Darren Hushak (Pinnacle Sound, Des Moines), so all are invited to come contribute to the energy in the room and to get their fill of that magical nourishment that comes from experiencing the creation of live original music.

Join us for a Caribbean-flavored celebration of the holiday season with Des Moines’ premier steel band, Tropical Steel. Performing their “sweet island sounds” around Iowa since 1997, this orchestra of talented multi-instrumentalists has been featured at numerous festivals and events including the World Food & Music Festival, Special Olympics USA Games, and the Iowa State Fair. Bringing their signature Caribbean and Latin vibes, Tropical Steel will warm up the holidays with unique versions of traditional Christmas carols, favorite holiday tunes from various cultures, and songs of celebration and peace. Expect a family-friendly, joyous explosion of sound and color that will leave you astounded and full of holiday cheer as only the steel pan can. Don’t be surprised if the limbo pole makes an appearance and your family gets invited down to check out the instruments!
