Itâs so easy to go overboard â overload your gala, and overrun your program time. It feels like your only shot in front of your audience. So you might âŚ
âď¸talk about your mission at length
âď¸ extoll your accomplishments for no reason
âď¸ give everyone a chance at mic
âď¸ ask for donations repeatedly
Resist the urge to do any or all of the above.
Instead keep it short and have a single point of focus because the best programsâŚ
âď¸ are short
âď¸ talk about a single problem that everyone can agree on
âď¸ is timed
âď¸ is scripted
âď¸ goes through rounds and rounds of rehearsals
âď¸ has a strong call to action
It takes focus and discipline to produce a program that doesnât just make your audience feel seen and hear â it makes everyone in the room feel considered.
As gala planners and producers, the numbers on our spreadsheets mean nothing unless we can make our audience feel like theyâre a part of a community. A program thoughtfully designed will do just that.

Happy Monday Gala Planners.
If youâre staring at your gala checklist this morning wondering what you might be missing on that list, add this: buy venue wifi.
Buy the wifi, make sure itâs password protected. Share this with your donors. Especially if youâre using mobile bidding.
Why? Because you want to make sure you have the bandwidth you need for donors to make bids as quickly and as often as possible.
The internet as your cash register. The internet being slow or crashes is like donors waiting in a long, long, long line to pay â and at some point they give up and dump the bid.
Get your own wifi â so getting bids and donations is fast and easy.

Corporate retreats done right are planned with a purpose.
We helped a clientâs team take a break from the boardroom planning strategy to spend the day at @theecologycenter. Getting their hands dirty and planting vegetables for local families who face food insecurities.
This team harvested more than just fresh produce; teamwork, unity, and corporate social responsibility were also on the menu.
A day well spent! đąđ¨âđŠâđ§âđŚ #CorporateRetreat #TeamBuilding #CommunityService #EcologyCenter #CorporateSocialResponsibility #PlantingSeedsOfChange
When an most executive walks into an event, they see a bunch of handshakes, cocktails, and wasted expense. Why itâs so tough to get executives to invest in events. The key to pitching an event effectively is to show how your event is going to benefit the organization.Â
The five questions you have to address are:
1. Is this event going to make money
2. Is this event going to save money
3. Is this event going to get more customersÂ
4. Is this event going to get your product first to market
5. Is this event going to help mitigate risk
Nail two of these five things, and thereâs a 99% chance your boss will say yes to your event.Â

Most developers should stop treating their ground breakings as a photo-op. They should be newsworthy events to help sell the development faster. At least thatâs what smart developers do.
How do you go from a flat dirt-and-shovels photo-op to a buzz-generating newsworthy event? By using this strategy.
This is how our team planned and delivered the West 202 Logistics Ground Breaking event for our clients: @caprock_partners @colliers_az , and @willmeng_construction .
I. Tell a story
Every event has a story, and this one is simple: Location. Location. Location. Itâs the largest, most strategically positioned infill development in Phoenix, the 5th fastest-growing economy in the nation. From West 202, a manufacturer or distributor can put their products in the hands of 70% of the US population within three trucking days.
II. Sell the dirt
The no. 1 rule in sales â Show, donât tell. Using StoryBoards and VR goggles guests could feel the magnitude, flexibility, and potential that 3.4 million square feet of industrial-commercial real estate bring.
III. Make it interesting
People never stay for boring. Moving beyond shovels and hard hats, we included elements like the TravisMatthew Experience, a par 3 pitching green (a nod to Phoenix Open week), PHX Suns Cheerleaders, even the tent looked like it came straight out of M*A*S*H.
This team was smart in using their ground breaking to sell the development from the dirt. As a result, they built record momentum for their active sales and marketing season.
Hereâs the thing: any event with the right strategy can be a vastly profitable one.
