History: A group of Bluegrass pickers in the Dallas/Fort

Worth Mid-Cities began meeting together in 2005, hosting jams in their homes and were eventually offered space to meet in a local church building. Our jamming circle varies in size week to week. Sometimes it's a small 8 pickers, sometimes it's up to 20+. There are extra rooms available for multiple jam circles as well. We welcome all pickers/singers/listeners and usually have a pot of coffee going too.

The biggest night in bluegrass is coming soon. Some say that's the IBMA Awards Show. I say it's the next time you're sitting in the jam circle playing or singing your heart out on a number you've practiced tirelessly on and getting the approving nod and encouragement of your picking buddies. Hope to see you in the circle soon. - KG

Forwarding the sad news of our Bluegrass hero Tom's illness and his Ann's passing this week. The following message was posted on Tom's page by his friend Bruce Burns.
------------
As many of you are aware, Coach Ann Uhr went to be with our Lord peacefully, on Tuesday morning, August 25th, at 9:00 am at home,
at which time, her beloved husband, Coach Tom Uhr was by her side, playing his guitar for her which she became very much accustomed to. Coach Ann had been sick for the last several months; however, she had gotten progressively worse over the past few weeks.

Coach Ann was best known as the winningist girls track coach in the Irving Independent School District history with 14 District championships.

Coach Tom Uhr has been admitted into Baylor Hospital-Irving yesterday morning in which he has tested positive for Covid-19 but is unable to receive visitors at this time. He is presently on oxygen however he is able to talk. I just spoke to him about an hour ago and is doing much better. He ate breakfast this morning and said his biscuit was as hard as a hockey puck however his lunch was much much better. Coach has a very good attitude and is so thankful for all of friends and family that have been so supportive and praying for him and Coach Ann.

Coaches heart is broken but his spirits are up. He is one of the most incredible men I have ever known in my life. He was the best boys track coach on this planet.

Please keep Coach Tom and their daughter Laura, her husband Pete, and their two granddaughters Lauren & Katie in your prayers.

I am so blessed as that I get to talk to Coach Uhr & Coach Webster on a daily basis. They both made a difference in my life and so many many others.

Hey friends, hope yall are still pickin at home or somewhere. I jammed for 4 hours on the HOT Garland Square this past Saturday with 10 pickers. Are any of you heading to Salmon Lake Park in Grapeland for Labor Day Festival? I have an RV site reserved for Oakdale Park in Glen Rose for Oct. 1-4 and we're still going even though they've cancelled the Jamboree. Anybody else? - Kirk

Hey folks, please keep our banjo buddy Jim Penson in your thoughts and prayers. Jim has been in ICU in Arlington Memerorial for a week now. Negative for covid, but bad pneumonia, strep, diverticulitis. Was intubated the first night. Very sick going in, but getting better. Send some good vibes his way.

I invited Me, Myself, and Yours Truly over for a bluegrass pickin session tonight. Whew, that banjo picker's a little rusty!

The jam is ON for tonight. If our gathering were held in a public place (restaurant, coffeehouse, etc.), as some jams and open mics are, we would have cancelled. Still, we totally understand if anyone has concerns and feel better staying home tonight. I look forward to picking with you tonight. - Kirk

Share this and change a life. Not sure what I'd be doing if I hadn't attended Pete Wernick's Jam Camp in Argyle back in 2006, playing golf or weaving baskets or something I guess. :) - Kirk

Jim Penson has played in many Texas bluegrass bands including the Front Porch Boys, and DeAnn Spence and Full House. A luthier who repairs and restores banjos, guitars, and mandolins, Jim also teaches banjo, mandolin, and guitar, helping students trust their ears rather than read from tablature. His...

The Dupree Theater in Irving is presenting the play “Inherit the Wind” in March.
The director would like to have live bluegrass traditional gospel played for approx 20 minutes before each performance begins. (And possibly during intermission)
A serious commitment as it is 13 nights in a row, plus a dress rehearsal. It does not have to be the same players every night and I would imagine it should be limited to 5-6 players each time.
The show begins March 20 with dress rehearsal on the 19th.

This is a non paid performance. If you or your group are interested, contact me and I will get you contact info. James Bell
