FYI: if you are able, get insurance on your flights and rooms. It’s always a good idea when we’re going so far..just wanted to put that out there. Hope it’s not too late if it’s needed.

Count down is here!!!

Information from Aunt Jacquie:

This is info from our condo hosts! Stop at the Aldi in Homestead (on the way, there is a Walmart superstore there as well) to get groceries on my way down. If you need to, there is a publix and a winn dixie 10 minutes in either direction (depending on traffic it can be longer) MUST have a car down here. Only in key west are golf carts legal and you can often walk faster than you can drive there. Though the first two weeks of October are ‘slow’ season for us, so perhaps you can get up to 25 MPH there.
At best of times it takes 2-2.5 hours to get to Key West. Much of it is 35-45 MPH. And You will probably want to make stops along the way. If interested in history perhaps Pigeon Key to learn of the railroad that went to sea. But definitely should stop in Big Pine Key to see our endangered key deer. Think white tail deer but the size of a German Shepard.
Key west itself is unique. A bipolar town for sure. It is a different town between night and day. Night time is raucous and folks do the ‘ducal crawl’. Drunken party. Then their is my daytime side of key west. A rich and diverse history showing how adaptable it can be. Lots of small museums that showcase this well.
To do both sides you would need an overnight. The 87 mile ride home in dark can be difficult even without a few drinks.

As for our area we are the sport fishing capital of the world. Blue water, reef, bay and backcountry are all right here. A great mix and some kind of fish are always running. Makes for good seafood restaurants too!
Between here and Looe key we have many fabulous snorkeling and scuba areas. This is our nation’s only coral reef You MUST get in that water!!!!! Kayaking in the mangroves is another favorite pastime.
And happy hours abound 😜
I have to tell you in advance the one thing that shocks most visitors is that we have very few beaches on these islands because of that reef. There are a few natural and a few man made here and there but that is not our thing. So hopefully you will get your dose of that elsewhere.
Captain Sue was recommended for private charter of a boat, snorkeling. 305 393 0842 $150 an hour for up to 6 people. She said we can do a number of things including a tour to a destination, or snorkeling or a sunset ride or a comb depending on how long we want the boat and the weather. She encourages reservations. I would like to consider doing this on Sunday before the wedding. If anyone is interested, please private message me.

If you are flying into Ft. Lauderdale which is what we recommend, it’s fairly easy to navigate. Rental cars are right there next to the airport which a shuttle takes you to.

We have never flown into Miami but the distance to our destination is about the same.

Something to keep in mind if you havnt purchased your tickets yet.

❤️

Great place for breakfast if you are staying near mile marker 81-82. Delicious food, sat right away with no wait and good service! There is a hotel next door as well. Idea for anyone who hasn’t booked their place!

Ok everyone! Thank you for signing onto this page so we can share some ideas with you. As we get closer to the date we are breaking down the details. Photography is something we have decided that we don’t want to spend a huge chunk of money on.
With that being said as if we aren’t asking enough of y’all to travel so far and spend so much to make this all happen. BUTT 😁 we want to turn this wedding into a photogenic and virtual one.

We want you guys to be our photographers! Take pictures of the moment you head on your journey to the keys to the moment you leave. At the end of the vacation, we all upload our photos to this page and share the memories!!

We do have a nice camera we can give to someone who is adventurous enough to take the wheel on that bad boy!

Take pictures, lots of pictures. Memories are important now more than ever. That’s the plan! Any thoughts welcome 🙏
