Figmentation Foundation Helping kids with deep trauma find their inner hero by making them the star of their own movie. These traumas can stifle healthy brain development.
(3)

Over a million children experience life-threatening trauma in the US every year, trauma that is caused by illness, injury or event. Kids often have no way to express themselves or communicate their experiences, leaving many feeling powerless and without hope.

~
The science behind helping children build perspective, creative problem solving, out of the box thinking, and empathy has been studied fo

r more than 100 years, in every major culture and on every habitable continent with the same results...

-Pretend Play-

Our process is inspired by both the sciences of enclothed cognition and play therapy to give a child the kind of experience that becomes a core memory they will fall back on for courage and hope throughout their lives.
~

Our process starts with Figmentation working with the child to write their hero's origin story. Helping the child see themselves, not as a hero written by someone else, but as the hero they already have within. The whole experience is anchored with the costume which acts similar to "Dumbo's feather" by helping the child find the courage they had inside all along. The final step is for our kids get to see themselves as that hero on the big screen so that they can carry that reminder with them forever.

Let me introduce you to KRFTR - Connect & Create with Custom Artists. www.KRFTR.com

Figmentation received an art project donation from them. The founder, Patricia, reached out to her art community for a collaboration effort to complete this piece.
The story from the back of the piece is as follows---

The collaboration story
Artist #1: Melinda, painted unicorn dragon which is shrunk by superhero fairy dust.
Artist #2: Cam, played with the idea of "fear of the dark" and "what is behind doors." She added the wooden door and lights over the Unicorn Dragon.
Artist #3: Tia Sunshine, contributed a compositional drawing to provide a collaborative direction.
Artist #4: Paige Trocshia, played into the superhero theme.
Artist #5: Lori McKinnon, a gold lightning bolt to symbolize our power within. We have control over fear. Be brave!
Artist #6: Ivy Egger, Vine Design Arts: I imagined that kids might wish for a magic wand to create a better world. Of course, I had to add some sparkle.
Artist #7: Diane R. Wyant: Using the theme, I incorporated portions of the previous artists' creations to paint an imaginary dream--like the Scene of a superhero kid.
Artist #8: Sam Price, SPricedStitch: I embellished the canvas with beads and stars to catch the door's light--the scroll with "Be the hero of your own story."
Artist #9: B.R. Light, I added the nature scenery with the bubbles and a child on top of the mountaintop to symbolize hope and strength. Also painted the bottom corners of both sides, to look like grass and water.--My goal was to inspire a sense of wonder involving the natural world.
Artist #10: Michele Burkett, I added the calligraphy quote by Superman on the left of the door.
Artist # 11: Patricia Dunn, Bottom right panel--The qualities of a superhero-Heart, Strength, Balance, and Empathy. 2024

These artists all gave their time and creativity so that Figmentation could benefit from it.
A huge shoutout to Patricia Dunn with KRFTR, for their eagerness to support Figmentation kids. We appreciate your kindness.
This piece will be a part of our next silent auction. OR

WHAT IS THE NUMBER ONE CAUSE OF CHILDHOOD TRAUMA??

Domestic abuse and neglect. Neglect, being the most common form of abuse.

Child abuse is a horrific experience with potentially lasting effects. Itโ€™s also, unfortunately, a common experience in America. Hereโ€™s a look at the scope of the problem
Highest rate of child abuse in children under age one (25.3 per 1,000). Annual estimate: 1,820 children died from abuse and neglect in 2021. Five children die every day from child abuse. Sixty-Six (66.2%) percent of all child fatalities were younger than 3 years old.
The youngest children were most vulnerable. Children in the first year of their life are 15% of all victims, and more than a quarter (28%) of child maltreatment victims are no more than 2 years old.

Breaking down child abuse by demographics, girls had a victimization rate of 8.7 per 1,000 girls in the population, higher than boys at 7.5 per 1,000 boys. American Indian or Alaska Native children have the highest rate of victimization at 15.2 per 1,000 children in the population of the same race or ethnicity, while African American children have the second-highest rate at 13.1 per 1,000 children of the same race or ethnicity.

Child abuse is deadly. In 2021, an estimated 1,820 children died from abuse and neglect in the United States. Boys have a higher child fatality rate at 3.01 per 100,000 compared to girls at 2.15.4 African-American child fatalities (5.6 per 100,000) is 2.9 times greater than that of white children (1.94), and 3.9 times greater than Hispanic children (1.44).1

Nationally, neglect is the most common form of abuse. Three-fourths (76%) of victims are neglected, 16% are physically abused, and 10% are s*xually abused, and 0.2% are s*x trafficked.

Yet CACs serve far more s*xual abuse cases, indicating a deeper problem.CACs investigated 247,543 cases involving s*xual abuse allegations in 2022, around 58% of all cases our members carried through. While not all these cases resulted in a disclosure, charges, or a conviction, itโ€™s an indication that the problem of s*xual abuse may be much larger than federal statistics show.

Most child victims are abused by a parent. In 2021, a reported 452,313 perpetrators abused or neglected a child. In substantiated child abuse cases, 77% of children were victimized by a parent.

At Figmentation we depend on our parent or guardian to sign our release form. Unfortunately, parents are the abusers in most cases.

It breaks my heart that it's nearly impossible to reach those children who need us the most!

NEXT IS ACCIDENT OR INJURY

Among children in this age group, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 9.2 million children visit the emergency department annually for an unintentional injury, representing 25โ€“40 % of all pediatric emergency department (PED) visits.
Every hour a child in the United States dies from an unintentional injury. For each death, there are 29 hospitalizations and nearly 1000 emergency department (ED) visits. In total, about 1 in 5 child deaths is a result of an unintentional injury.

NEXT IS ILLNESS

Every year in the U.S., 27000 children are diagnosed with critical illnesses. That's 27000 families whose lives are turned upside down.

LASTLY,
A traumatic event, that altered the child's emotional development.
