Tortoises, lizards, and snakes....oh my!!
We had a wonderful, albeit hot, day at Heritage Days today. Thank you so much to everyone who stopped by the booth to say hi. We love being a part of this wonderful community. β₯οΈπ’π¦π
Lunch today with my dad at the booth!! β₯οΈππ¦π’
The gangs all here!! Come out to Ivins City Park for Heritage Days! We will be here until 2pm. π’π¦πβ₯οΈ They've got games and bounce houses for the kids, the best smelling food trucks, and lots of cool vendors!! Bailey, Mini, Lovey, and Gordon are currently with me but may get switched out later due to the heat. Right now, though, it's feeling great!!
It has been a great night here at Heritage Days at the Ivins City Park! We will be here for about a half an hour more tonight and we will be here all day tomorrow so come and see us! β₯οΈβ₯οΈππ¦π’
Don't forget to come see us tonight from 5-8pm and tomorrow 9am-2pm at Heritage Days in Ivins!!! π’π¦π
I always see really cool things everyday on my morning hike. Sometimes I get lucky and the really cool things involve reptiles. β₯οΈπ’π’
I happened upon these two mojave desert tortoises this morning and tried to snag a little video. The male will bob his head, circle the female, bite at her ...
I took Jack to school then did tegu meal prep before work today. They eat better than I do with fish, carrots, blackberries, bell pepper, and just a tiny bit of banana (bananas can upset their stomachs but they make for an okay treat, since the girls love them, every once in a while). I'll also pick dandelion greens, collards, and kale from the greenhouse. Luna and Estella will then be good to go for 2-3 days until their next feed. β₯οΈπ¦
Mini is at it again......check out the latest "Why a sulcata cannot be trusted" video. ππ’β₯οΈ
Mini the tortoise is always getting into some mischief. Today was supposed to be tortoise soak day, but when I left the bins to go get some water from insid...
Baseball and swimming.... What a wonderful way to spend a long weekend. β₯οΈ I hope you got to do a thing or two you love this holiday weekend as well! βΎπ¬
Don't forget to come see me this Friday night from 5-8 pm or Saturday from 9am to 2 pm at Heritage Days here in Ivins!!! I will have a couple reptile friends ready to meet and greet and goodies to give away. We'd love to see you! π¦ππ’
Happy Sunday from this sassy pants, Izzy the blue iguana. β₯οΈ
We cannot wait to be a part of this year's fall festivities at Staheli Family Farm !!! I will be there to do 2 presentations a week from September 20th through the last Friday in October.
A three day weekend makes me about as happy as Mini in a field of greens. I always love a little happy eating tortoise tongue. πππ’β₯οΈ I hope everyone has a safe and happy Labor Day weekend!
Look who is a sponsor for Ivins Heritage Days!!! We β₯οΈ being a part of our community. We'd love to have you stop by this free family event on September 6th (5-8 pm) AND 7th (9am-2pm) to say hi and meet a few of our reptile friends!! ππ¦π’ We can't wait to see you there!!
Art by Caiti Chase the logo still looks fantastic, and I appreciate your talents on both the book AND all the reptile art you've done for me!!! β₯οΈ
Bruno the milk snake is such a gorgeous boy. Though these snakes have colors that resemble the venomous coral snake, don't be fooled. I wouldn't want to be a snake, lizard, or mouse in his path, but Bruno is perfectly harmless to humans. Keep an eye on the colors in their pattern and remember this little saying if you ever need to tell the difference between a coral snake and a milk snake.....
Red on black is a friend of Jack.
Red on yellow can kill a fellow!
The red bands on a fancy milk snake touch the black bands, whereas the red bands on a coral snake touch the yellow/white bands. πππ

Sundays are for saying hi to lizards in our yard....if I don't move, they won't see me. π¦ππ»
We had a blast this morning sharing our reptile friends at the Black Diamond Experts corporate family event at St. James Park. It was nice to see a few familiar faces and always nice to meet so many new friends!! I think Mini, Ruby, Lovey, Gordon, Lucy, Bailey, and Gus had a wonderful time with me and my good friends Sarah and Zach. Thanks so much for having us. π’ππ¦β₯οΈ
Hey Acton Academy, we are headed your way!! β₯οΈπ¦ππ’
I was working on digging out another burrow today but Perseus decided he was going to "help". By help I mean keep walking up and smelling the shovel and diving head first back and forth down the dirt in front of said shovel. They are like a toddler, anything you do they want to help with and anytime they help the task takes 10x as long. π€£β₯οΈ He seemed proud of himself though and that's what matters.
Gardening is a family affair when you have 20 tortoise/lizard mouths to feed. My little one is VERY excited and proud to show you some of what he has grown from seeds this summer. :)
My son planted the seeds and has grown and picked all the fruits and vegetables from his garden to feed the tortoises and lizards this summer. Reptile rescu...
Wrapping up my ode to lizards for missing World Lizard Day here is Gus the Blue Tongue Skink having some lunch today. β₯οΈπ¦ Lizards can be tough but they're worth it.
Happy Sunday from our gecko girl, Lottie! Our geckos don't get nearly enough love on here, and I don't know why because they are pretty cool little lizards. β₯οΈ
Keeping world lizard weekend going... Here is a rare glimpse of Bailey the bearded dragon actually eating his greens first. π€£
Beardies sleep in the weirdest ways. Ask any bearded dragon owner and they will, undoubtedly, have weird pictures of their bearded dragon sleeping. π€£ This hide/climbing thing is maybe 1-1.5 inches wide at the top. He likes to go through it and climb over it, etc. It's usually open wider and not so wonky looking, and that water bowl is usually full and clean. Who knows what happened here, but Bailey was obviously tired after it..... π€£π€£β₯οΈβ₯οΈ
Yesterday was World Lizard Day and since I'm a loser who didn't post yesterday I'll host this weekend as World Lizard Weekend.
We are so glad to get to love Gus, Izzy, Bailey, Lottie, Dottie Spottie, Luna, Estella, and George among all of the others we have rescued, rehomed, or lost. β₯οΈβ₯οΈ
The culprit....Don't let this sweet face fool you. Yesterday I was the recipient of my first snake bite. She viciously (not really it was pretty subtle, but I have a flair for the dramatic) attacked my finger apparently mistaking it for lunch. She held on about 5 minutes and tried to constrict my whole hand as I may or may not have had a mild panic attack while trying to convince her that fingers are friends NOT food (hasn't she ever seen Finding Nemo?!). This all while my son was in the background screaming "Call 911, mommy is going to die!!!" Who knew drama was an inherited trait? Really though, no one was actually harmed (tell that to my finger) and snake puberty is a wild ride.
We made it home from vacation! To say he missed his favorite snake, Cherry Pie, is an understatement. β₯οΈβ₯οΈ They're finally back together again.
Mini getting into more trouble...
Our sulcata tortoise, Mini, LOVES to get into all kinds of mischief. What is he doing now?

Jack, the 5 (and a third) year old self proclaimed future Olympic swimmer, is very excited to be watching the Olympics this year. What are your favorite sports to watch? So far ours have included swimming (obviously), gymnastics, and beach volleyball, but I, for one, definitely miss baseball being a part of the summer games. ππ»ββοΈπ€Έπ»ββοΈπβΎ
Spotlight Sunday: Gus the blue tongued skink! Gus, aka my little meatloaf, is enjoying a worm, blueberry, and apple snack. They are such fun animals to watch with their tiny little legs and big, round bodies. This snakelike lizard can be found in Australia and are omnivores, meaning they eat both plants and animals. Some of Gus' favorites are superworms, crickets, kale, mustard greens, squash, blueberries, and strawberries. #bluetonguedskink #blueylove Happy Sunday! I hope everyone has a great week. β₯οΈ
Perseus, Diego, and Dante. They are the cutest ever, but dang boys we need to work on those nails. β₯οΈ #rescuetortoises #russiantortoise #greektortoise #tortoiselove #crazytortoiselady
People sometimes ask if caring for the animals is ALL I do. π We have 34 reptiles right now so it may seem like it, but once everyone is taken care of and parties are done for the day this is what we do. All summer long!! We hope you're enjoying your summer, staying cool, and having a blast!! Swimming here at home with the beautiful red rock backdrop is obviously our favorite thing, but what is YOUR favorite thing to do in the summer?
Update ... It's now up to 25 kids....πβ€οΈ "We tentatively have 20 kids right now ....this is getting out of hand. I haven't ever gotten this good of a response with a birthday party. People are getting real excited about your reptiles!!" This is what I love to hear!! I have an upcoming birthday party this Friday, and I love getting messages like this from the parents. β€οΈππ¦π’ If you want to have the coolest birthday party on the block let me know! We are booking for summer parties now!!
Instagram isn't working for me right now, but I couldn't wait to share one of our new loves. I've dreamt of having a Blue Tongue Skink for a while and one happened to be available in my area from a lovely family who just didn't have the time for him that they knew he needed. I am thrilled to have Gus and can't wait for his tank background and a few other decor items to come. For now we're using towels because if the Bearded Dragon sees another animal he goes crazy! β₯οΈ The reptile room is as full as my heart!!!
