Well, here we are. Over the 12 Days of Christmas I have shared my upcoming album For My Friends and Family with you all. Today marks the end of the 12 Days and I'm sharing the last song on the album, The Wind in Our Sails. It's a song that I wrote for my father and gave to him on his birthday a few years ago. Day 34 of 37 (Meadowlark) -

This summer I drove from Mississippi to Maine on my first tour. I went places I've never been before and met lots of lovely people that I'd never met before. I saw the country I call home from a different perspective. The people change but the places say the same.

Day 28 of 37 (New Life) - https://mailchi.mp/5fd91528abc4/day-28-of-37-new-life When I restored the doorway in our home that the termites destroyed, I decided to remake it. To make it new. I’ve turned it into an archway that connects the dinning room to the living room. When I look at the archway I don’t think about what it was, but I choose to celebrate what it has become.

We uprooted our garden at the end of the season, our dog developed seizures, and then we found termites in our home on the same day we celebrated my daughters second birthday.

Since 2003 I’ve had a love then hate and then again love relationship with Mississippi. I was in an Uber recently in DC and the driver asked me what’s good about Mississippi. I told him people say our land isn’t more beautiful than anywhere else and we don’t have a better city than any other state but if you live here you will find that it’s the people that make it beautiful.

I remember when I was a kid, the nation was talking about Christmas vs Xmas. One of the catch phrases was “Keep Christ in Christmas”.

I remember studying the book of Ephesians when I was Artist in Residence at a church in Danville. We made banners that hung on the walls of the sanctuary highlighting our theme “in Christ”. We wanted to be encouraged to live a life in Christ!

Day 18 of 37

In my imagination I see God walking through a door of an old barn, while a person (maybe me, maybe you) is walking through a door on the opposite side of the barn. The two keep walking closer together and then God reaches out His hand to greet the person – they shake hands and start a conversation. That represents God greeting humankind.
Then I see God showing up in Xenia, Ohio (my hometown) and finding me there and we again shake hands and have a great conversation.
Then again at the Pearl Street when I’m older and living/working just off the mall…there could be a lot of verses written about all the various places where God has greeted me in my life.

This version of today’s whisper is an old recording of me singing “Shaking Hands” a cappella—- not to long ago Trailand added some guitar. Not an easy task on his part, as my tempo flows a bit much to merit anyone playing along with any ease—but he did great! Can’t wait to hear this song with several acoustic players and other singers joining in making me sound good.
