These photos were taken at The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston in an installation by Carlos Cruz-Diez. Since the 1960s he has pioneered a style called Chromosaturation. There is no filter on these photos, he uses light of different colors to create these other worldly effects. Learn more here and watch the documentary (on Amazon) Free Color.

Essie Mae Strother Patter was born on January 2nd, 1917 in Royston, Georgia. Throughout her life she maintained close ties with her three brother George, Robert, and Ernest. Mrs. Patterson dedicated her professional life to education teaching elementary school for 40+ years in Abbeville, SC where she lived most of her life. Essie had a deep love for family, enjoyed travel, and regularly worked the polls during elections. She was a long time member of Mulberry AME where she was active in the Woman’s Home Aide Society in addition to being an Eastern Star and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.

Throughout her life Essie’s passion for learning and service to others guided her and today continues to inspire the work of this organization. We honor her today.
