First week of this 3 week theme, run alongside a yoga sequence inspired by the earth element, to ground us for winter. We feel the strength of the navel, move the marrow of the bones and with the structure of the yamas, we "propel the stream" (Rolf Sovik), which is the mission of the niyamas.

This weekend's Vive yoga teacher continuing education module took me back to the seed planted last week as I considered the need for grieving practices like those seen during Day of the Dead holiday, before we can celebrate life with those we love and call family, during the remainder of the holidays this year.

The Yama and Niyama...another wisdom gift of the Yoga Sutras to help us appreciate the need for introversion before the extroversion in life (Stephen Cope). This week I begin a series that helps us take 3 weeks in the Yama of the 8 Limbs of Yoga so we can take that grounding into the earth series of the subsequent 3 weeks in the Niyama of the 8 Limbs of Yoga. Perfect for a time when we will be going buck wild on the eating. ;)
