Sara + Chuck said their vows in front of less than 5 people, my own wedding was less than 30 people, and I’ve documented weddings that range from 3-300+. It’s pretty dope to see how each wedding is different and tailored to each couple and family. Stay true to what’s important to you and you can’t go wrong.

December and January is a bit of a blur but getting to hang with so many amazing people and delivering their galleries has been a great reminder of how far I’ve come and where I want to go.

Wedding day with these two was 10/10. .taran + had an intimate ceremony at and then had a larger reception with family and friends to celebrate. The entire day was relaxed and fun, which was very them.

I prefer being behind the camera rather than in front but wants me to show face for the gram so here I am.

One of my couples asked me recently, “How *weird* are we talking?” and here was my response:
Tyler Gets Weird is a brand I created because I wanted to shoot weddings with character. I think we all have a little weird in us and I'd rather celebrate that than hide it. As far as how weird we will get, that's up to you. I'm an outrageous no-nonsense professional when it comes to doing what I need to do to document the day. When the situation allows it, I'm full-on nonsense. I want couples that love each other and want to have a great time at their wedding.

A glimpse into Kristen + Steve’s wedding. This was my brand’s first photo and video wedding, which takes a lot of effort to document both successfully at the same time but it was 100% worth it to truly capture the quirkiness and true essence of The Waldrons. Can’t wait to be back in St. Louis to document Kristen’s brother’s wedding next May!

— Wedding day portraits —
One thing I like to chat with my couples about is timing for the ceremony. For portraits post-ceremony, I recommend the ceremony being about two hours prior to sunset. Different variables come into play so this isn’t a hard rule that has to always be followed, more of a general guideline if having golden hour portraits is something important to you.
Fun fact: the exact sunset time on your wedding date can be Googled. Type “sunset time on x/x/xx in city/state” and it will pop up down to the minute. The more you know!

On wedding day, I capture any details that are important to you. The ring shot is often on that list.

I always appreciate intentionality when it comes to rings because it’s not just about a karat or Diamond. It’s about thoughtfulness. It’s a symbol of choosing and commitment.

For me personally, I decided to make my wife a new ring every year. It’s my way of showing her that every year I am working on us and me. As we evolve, so do the rings. About to start working on this year’s ring soon. To be continued. 💍

I want to document whatever it is that you want documented. Some couples want me there for a lot of the getting ready. Some couples prefer I capture more dancing + partying. My goal is to capture whatever is important to you.

Christina sewed her own gorgeous wedding dress. Patrick gets the best beard award.

Last picture is the father daughter dance. Yes, he's ok. Yes, it was on purpose. Yes, he can still walk. Yes, it was amazing.

For J + J’s intimate wedding on Orcas Island, I did what I named the “IDGAF” photo package. They didn’t particularly care about photos but wanted the day documented so I told them I’d capture the moments and they could just enjoy the day.

If photos aren’t a priority, we don’t need to spend hours doing portraits you don’t care about and a more photojournalistic approach allows the candid moments to still be captured.

At the end of the day I’m here to make sure you get what you want documented and if that’s the IDGAF package, I’m here for it.

Something that is very important to me is authentic storytelling. I want to capture realness.

When my buddy Danny hired me to capture his surprise proposal, we brainstormed how to make sure it felt natural and not staged but was thoughtfully planned out. So we plotted an epic plot:
I contacted Kayla to "plan a surprise shoot for Danny" and she loved the idea (we all live on the east coast and the proposal was happening in Oregon). I even came up with the idea for her to write a letter to him, so that I could justify putting a mic on him.

On the day-of the proposal we hiked through Silver Falls. I wanted to capture the story of how it happened so with with help from my buddy, Levi, we documented the hike as well.

It all ended up perfect - it was fun, it was a surprise, it was romantic. Although there was planning involved, we let it organically unfold and it couldn't have been better.

I miss being a new photographer. I miss having a basic gear setup. I miss going out and creating for fun. .levi and I were talking and he reminded me how much more we can do when we aren’t worrying about which lens to use or crazy light setups. He talked about the amazing stuff people make when they just go out and do. Here is another example of my old work. Back when I had one camera and one lens.
