Good Afternoon Troops!
Today, in the heat I found myself going a bit nutty and it goes without saying that for all of us sometimes in light of current life trends and events, things can get challenging and dark at times. Today it is umpteenth thousands of degrees out, the humidity so high that you can cut the air with a butter knife and it makes for some harsh moments, but at the same time, reminds me of the heat of Vietmont, where we all embrace and relish in the suck together. Where for some of us, our only church or time with the Earth is right there in 55 year old jungle boots, clothing from generations ago, bringing back the ghosts of that time, that era.. as it is now, the world, the states were in a moment of tumult, and as I am typing a thunderstorm is bearing down with the hopes of solid rain and cooler temps. I'm sure some of you remember the downpours and the discomfort of being under a poncho, but at the same time saying " So glad it isn't hot!" For those initiated, you have been forged by fire, for those aspiring to be a part of A Shau, now is the time. I sincerely cannot describe those Vietnam moments, but can relate to my first, back in the late 90s I was running point, in tigers running point with a SEAL team that was co-mingled with a group of Army regular fngs. - we had just crossed a stone wall in the valley at tolcom for the first trail to hell events, I was rocking an m37 with a custom duck bill choke and a Car-15 hanging slack on my side... we had just come out of the woods, crossing a stone wall creeping through some of the highest elephant grass a guy could imagine, my ears were pricked, my head on a slow swivel when I just sensed it.. kinda just knew.. my hand went up, I looked back, and the guy rolling behind me have these bcgs on and the whole scene just sorta shimmered.. and I felt it.. that Vietnam moment.. truly breathtaking, to feel that.. it was a picture, a sense and really amazingly dimensional. The kid had fear in his eyes ... the grass was above his helmet, the smell of timothy and earthy stone wall, sound of the cicadas just buzzing away... that was my first vietnam moment and one that I will never forget..
Our intention my friends and compatriots of Liberty Canyon. Is to bring you every bit of that experience. You will find it, for those that haven't and when you do. That snapshot will forever be burned into your soul.
If you haven't signed up for one of the greatest events on Earth, I encourage you to do that now. If you have, this will be amazing.
