I used to think “pivot” was mostly a hilarious reference to that scene in Friends- you know- “the one with the sofa.” 😂 But then it became something that nearly every business had to do in 2020 in some way. And for most- the word referenced finding a way to get by and make it through. It became inextricably linked to the word “pandemic.” We used hard work and dogged determination and relied on the support of our local communities to “pivot” and they didn’t let us down. Thanks to the interest in our (then new) weekly flower subscription, we did get through (and survived the loss of all of our wedding and event contracts)! The program taught us all the power of the presence of hosting nature weekly in our homes, the wonder flowers bring to our children, and the joy of a small surprise each week. We’re getting ready to share the new evolution of Flower Club! 💗
It was a “pivot”.
How our local subscription model kept us in the game.
It’s bulb time! The first of our 5 fall bulb containers arrived today. The team unloaded it and got the bulbs into climate control quickly and efficiently. Every time we receive a big shipment we get a little better at it! These containers are full. They hold 21 pallets like those you see here. This team is awesome. 🩷 The first freight and box shipments go out on Monday. 🌷🌷🌷 We can’t wait to get bulbs into the hands of our capable flower farming customers all across the US and Canada!
I don’t want you folks here in Facebook world to miss out on this one. We shared this on Instagram. People liked it. Cheers.
Hello, local flower lovers! WINTER TULIP CLUB memberships (hand delivered locally) are now available on our website! Here is a direct link for your shopping convenience: https://www.littlefarmhouseflowers.com/local-flowers/p/6-week-tulip-club-membership
These make an awesome winter blues mood buster. They are also the perfect gift for people who don’t want more “stuff”. And they support our local small business and winter staff — there are 4 of us who work here through the winter on the farm. -4 local families that deeply appreciate your support of our woman-owned farm.
We’ll mail a beautiful photo postcard to you/your recipient announcing/explaining the Tulip Club program.
AND members also have the choice to participate in our FREE food waste collection service. While we’re delivering your flowers, we’re happy to take away your weekly food waste for free! This keeps food waste out of landfills where it creates greenhouse gasses, helps us give back to the soil here where we’re practicing regenerative farming, and lowers your dump bill! Win-win-win
⏳We’re entering the final days of registration for The Lily Workshop! Join us online this winter (an add-on in person on farm program is also available) and learn how we grow and bring lilies to our markets through the months when we’re not harvesting tulips. Between these two crops alone we can provide year-round income to our farms. Of course, we love growing other things, too - but having these reliable, programmable focal flowers blooming when we need them is a huge boost. We use clues from nature and the needs of the plant to grow them over a VERY long season. In this course we offer our recommended varieties, ordering suggestions, bulb size and treatment information, how day length and light affect our growing plans, two different container planting schematics (from our different farms), watering/fertilizing recommendations, pest and disease management, cost saving tips, timeline for achieving blooms from spring to winter, harvesting and selling information and more. Included in your course is unlimited online access to our video lessons, a beautiful full color printed course book, and a forum for asking questions. Registration closes in one week! We hope you can join us. 🌱 See the SHOP page on The Tulip Workshop website (www.thetulipworkshop.com) to register.

Do you use trellis netting as horizontal support for crops or as vertical support for vines like sweet peas, hyacinth bean vine, or cup and saucer vine, etc.? It’s fall cleanup on our farm and we always store and re-use our plastic netting. Here is a quick and easy tip for storing this material, which can otherwise turn into a tangled mess of epic proportions. Don’t have bulb crate lids? Make your own spool with a piece of cardboard about 1.5ft x 2ft with a few notches to help catch the netting. For now quick, practical tips join @littlefarmhouseflowerspro and have a look behind the scenes. It’s just $2.74/week. A big thank you to my awesome crew for putting up with my shenanigans!!!

Hi everyone! 🎉Our Pro plan starts tomorrow. What is Little Farmhouse Flowers Pro? It’s an awesome collection of quick, innovative and helpful video tips that address 3 categories of our work here at Little Farmhouse Flowers: PLANTS (we love multi use varieties. We love perennials. We love self-sowing annuals.) PROCESSES (We love efficiency and streamlining. We like finding ways to make things easier on us mentally and physically when it comes to farming and floristry) and TOOLS (We want to share with you all of our favorite tools, any safety considerations you want to know about, how to care for them properly and where to get them, etc.) So if you like the idea of having a look behind the scenes at HOW things work on our flower farm / in our flower studio we hope you’ll consider joining us. Pro plan members who join us at launch will find our library ( @littlefarmhouseflowerspro or in the member area of our website) pre-stocked with 14 weeks of videos that are ready to help you right away! They are all segmented and categorized and easy to search/view. And we’ll add a new video sequence each week. At the end of the month we’ll share a newsletter round up with you so that you can see our content by email if you prefer. This is exactly the kind of service I wished was available, so we dove in and built it and we hope you’ll find it super useful, too.

We received lots of great notes and questions about our cut flower perennial beds last week! Thank you. 💗 Here is a little feature I put together about one of our favorites. This plant blooms it’s first year from seed. It can be divided in the second year AND it also self-sows. It grows 4-5ft tall. And you can get two market bouquet cuts from a single stem. It doesn’t mind clay. I promise this is no fairy tale! Let me know if you grow it, too. Seeds from one of our favorites: @swallowtailgardenseeds

Switching to some blue flowers for a bit to compliment the yellows 🇺🇦. Remember to keep telling Ukrainians that you care. Remember to keep working for them. They’re exhausted. They’ve seen more horror and felt more fear in the last month than the vast majority of us outside of Ukraine can ever imagine. Have a peek at @villaverde.farm ‘s stories feed. The bombs are close now. Don’t forget about the human suffering going on. These flowers have a new meaning for me now. #forgetmenot

Local? Missed our open studio over the weekend? Guess what?! Lots of flowers are headed to @norisvillagemarket this evening. I’ll be there around 5pm with this big batch! They are a great cure for these 4th? winter blues. (Not sure how many winters we’re on at this point, but it’s damn cold and gray and couldn’t we all use some cheery tulips as a reminder spring IS on its way!

Join our effort! We’ve set a goal of selling 300 bunches of tulips this week with ALL the money going to the Razom For Ukraine organization. The flowers go to local long term care centers. The $$$ go to Razom for Ukraine!! We’re sharing our progress and we’ll charge videos and donation receipts on Instagram, too. Check out our web shop. www.littlefarmhouseflowers.com/shop and look for the project. ALL the money goes to Razom for Ukraine. We are fronting the sales tax from our farm for New York purchases, too— so literally all the money that comes in goes back out, along with flowers to long term care centers. 🌷 Let us know if you have questions. We’re thanking all of our donors on Instagram stories 💗.
