Abington Art Center, located in Jenkintown, 20 minutes by rail from the heart of Philadelphia was established in 1939 as the Old York Road Art Guild. In 1965, the Guild's separate elements were brought together as the non-profit entity Abington Art Center, which has resided in Alverthorpe Manor since it was donated to Abington Township in 1969. Rosenwald, son of Julius Rosenwald, the part-owner an

d CEO of Sears, Roebuck and Company. In 1939, he razed the old house to build the current art-deco-inspired, 52-room mansion designed by Ernest A. The Art Center’s Studio School wing of this unique building once housed Rosenwald's enormous collection of over 2,600 rare books and 24,000 prints, drawings, and manuscripts, which was donated to the Library of Congress and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. Our rich history provides inspiration for AAC's mission to further arts and culture.

📿 Bead Sale: A Jewelry Studio Benefit

During our 🎪 Holiday Art and Fine Craft Fair 🎪

📍Sunday, November 16 from 10am - 4pm

AAC was the recipient of an incredibly generous bead donation from artist and AAC friend Elizabeth (Libby) Glatfelter who passed away in 2021. Libby’s goal was to sell the beads to purchase much needed new benches and a soldering station for the jewelry studio where she spent much of her time. Please join us on Sunday November 16th from 10am-4pm in the Community Gallery to shop for beads and help to make these much needed improvements to our jewelry studio.

Donations are also welcome!

🪡 An Upcoming (Free!) Embroidered Portrait Workshop & Talk

📍Saturday, November 22 from 10 AM – 12 PM

Join fiber artist Bonnie MacAllister for a morning of conversation then try your hand at embroidering portraits!

From MacAllister: "Using a spectrum of basic to more involved sculptural stitches, practice on an embroidery hoop and a guided pattern (sewable reference guides available.) Learn how to transfer your chosen reference image from a cell phone or drawing to create a unique portrait or original design to create your own original piece. Small embroidery hoop and materials provided. Display your work at home by placing the hoop on a small nail."

🌟 No experience necessary. Teens aged 14 and up may participate with a registered adult.
