Dear friends of the Fledermaus Barn,
after sitting empty and mostly unused (NOT unloved), the Barn is ready to become someone else's favorite place in the world as it was for Glenn. That means I have to make a more serious effort in clearing out all our cherished Teahouse furnishings to allow a future buyer to picture the space with their own stuff inside.
So this is your chance to "own a piece of history".
I will be holding a Barn Clearance sale and would love to see many of our patrons return one last time. There are a couple of dining tables, sets of dining chairs, the settees and arm chairs, chest of drawers, wall deco, the lighted stars, light fixtures, China and glass ware, the cake cooler on its little custom made table, and a LOT of Glenn's tools downstairs.

I plan it for the first weekend in September (9/7-8) but if anyone would like to come over before and have a look around or call first dibs, then that is fine, too. Give me a call or send at email to [email protected].

Dear friends of the Fledermaus Barn, as you all know last year was a time of great sadness and upheaval; I tried to carry on with our beloved Fledermaus in a different format as an event location but it turns out that that is not a feasible objective for me after all. The barn as a building and as a business requires more than I can handle on my own.
It is therefor with good deal of regret, but also a sense of liberation that I am stepping away from it and close the Barn as a public space for good.
Glenn and my time as your host and hostess (or Publican, as Glenn liked to call himself in the English tradition) will remain a cherished memory for all the connections made, and the yummy fun we had.
I am still harboring secret hopes of reviving the Fledermaus Tours in the future but time will tell.

From the bottom of my heart, and with deep gratitude and love for your loyalty and friendship over the years, I say THANK YOU!, and I hope to see y'all around!

Dear Friends of the Fledermaus,
I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of support and friendship from you all. My goodness, what a beautiful community we have. ❤️
A heartfelt Thank You to each and everyone for the kind words, the sharing of memories and encouragement on our new path forward. It's going to be fine, right?

Dear Teahouse Friends,
many of you have heard by now that Glenn, our Teahouse MC, chef and barista par excellence has passed away. Operating the Teahouse was his greatest pride and joy after successfully concluding a long career as a professional photographer. He packed an inordinate amount of life into his years, and we will miss him beyond words.

That being said, I cannot conceive running the teahouse without him by my side, and yet, his beautiful creation shall be used and filled with life, just as he always wanted it to be.
For that reason, and after thinking about it long and hard, I came up with the plan of opening the Barn not as a full-service teahouse but as a welcoming space for folks to rent for their special occasions. From Birthday celebrations to Bridal showers to book club meetings and anything in between. It will be self-catered and fully furnished including china and silverware for groups up to 20 people.
I am currently working on the details like pricing and deposits, etc. but if you are already interested in hosting your event at the Fledermaus Barn then please send me a message to reserve your date and we will figure it out.

Onwards and upwards.
Renate Callahan, with Glenn always in our hearts

It's been another fun and successful season, thanks to all of our returning and new customers. And thank you for respecting our COVID vaccination requirement for indoor seating. Costumers and staff all felt safer for it.

Pictured is a Maple Cream torte with marzipan maple leaf decoration and layers of sauteed cinnamon apple. This was made by request for a take-home birthday cake. After we close, we are available for custom cake orders for your home gathering. Phone or email us for more info.

Dear Teahouse friends,
Whoever said baking is boring has not been using these nice chocolates. 😊
Using first grade sustainable ingredients is always important to us; and where else can you read a poem and learn about endangered Zebras at the same time as making a Ganache?

Dear Fledermaus Friends,
sadly, we will not open this weekend but take a few days to rest up. We hope to welcome you all back next week.
Thanks for all the good wishes.

Dear Fledermaus Friends,
for the first time ever we will not be able to open tomorrow for health reasons. Also we don't feel confident enough to accept reservations for the rest of this weekend either. But if we have to stay closed Saturday and Sunday as well, we will let you know right away
Thank you, and enjoy this lovely weather. We hope to see you again real soon.

Here's another in our series of Pictures-of-Customers-with-their-Classic-Autos. Greg's a regular, but usually shows up with his bright red Porsche 911. Today he surprised us with this 1966 912. Not a bad way to travel for a Cappuccino and cake.

Dear Teahouse friends, Glenn and I have been working diligently behind the scenes to put together next year's trip to the Baltic Sea coast of Germany to explore historic towns of the Hanseatic League, marvel at UNESCO Heritage sites and savor local cuisine fresh from the Sea. Before we are all done and can publish a price I wanted to give you a little teaser and show you the hotel where we will be staying, right in downtown Wismar.

P.S. as far as publishing a price goes I just want to say that while we don't quite have all our ducks in a row yet, at least they are all in the same pond and should line up pretty quick. So please stay tuned.

Dear Teahouse friends,
after a 3-year hiatus the Fledermaus is getting ready to fly again. Next spring (2023) we are going to visit the far north of Germany, the Baltic Sea coast and some cities of the Hanseatic League. Based in Wismar, in itself a UNESCO World Heritage site we are going to explore famous cities like Lübeck, Schwerin and Stralsund, white sandy beaches and Victorian seaside resorts. As always, we will stay at a comfortable upscale hotel throughout in Wismar, and finish up with two days in Hamburg prior to our return stateside. A full itinerary as well as prices will be shared soon.
We plan on keeping this group on the smaller side of up to 8 travelers; so if you would like to join us on this adventure then let us know sooner rather than later.

Come with us on a tour of Hamburg, Lübeck, Bremen, Lüneburg, Wismar and Stralsund! They all once belonged to the Hanseatic League, a European trade alliance....
