The announcement comes as the latest development in the expansion of media offerings in the region.

Joe Schratz, a distinguished alumnus of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Graduating with a bachelor's degree in journalism in 1985, Schratz embarked on a storied career that has seen him make substantial contributions to the field.

Commencing his professional journey at the Arkansas Democrat, Schratz swiftly made his mark, eventually ascending to the position of Editor of the North Little Rock Times. His expertise and dedication led him to editorial roles in prominent publications, including the Bethlehem Globe Post in Bethlehem, PA, and the Burlington County Times in Burlington, New Jersey, where he served as Copy Editor and Business Editor.

Schratz's illustrious career path converged with the Jonesboro community in 2007 when he assumed the roles of Assistant Managing Editor, News Editor, and Reporter at the Jonesboro Sun, where he served diligently until his move to JonesboroRightNow in March 2024.

You also would probably agree that the strength of newspaper across our country has been steadily decreasing for the last two decades. Like it or not, the days of the printed newspaper are numbered.

What isn't changing is a community's need for journalism. Journalism that empowers citizens with knowledge, fosters accountability, and cultivates an informed and engaged populace essential for the vitality of democracy.

We believe with the continued decline of the newspaper our community needs another journalistic alternative. Another voice. Another vigilant eye on the good, the bad, and the needy.

73 years ago today (March 29, 1950), Tootsie's Orchid Lounge opened on Lower Broadway in downtown Nashville. Originally named Mom's, Hattie Louise "Tootsie" Bess bought the future honky-tonk in 1960. The name came later when, to her surprise, a painter made the exterior of the lounge purple. Subsequently, the name was changed to Tootsie's Orchid Lounge. In the Spring of 2000, I played there for the first of many times. Here's a pic of me on-stage at Tootsie's back in the day!
