Make Your Voice Heard for Endangered Species!

Arkansans, we have an opportunity to ensure that ALL species protected under the Endangered Species Act get the attention they deserve. Brian Nesvick, a candidate for Director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, is being questioned by the Senate committee—and we need Senator John Boozman to ask the right questions.

Here’s how you can help:
📞 Call Senator Boozman’s office and ask to speak directly with someone who handles environmental issues. This will have a greater impact than just being noted in a log.
✉️ Avoid emails—they can easily be overlooked.
📝 Use the Red Wolf Coalition's guideline of questions to ensure critical issues are addressed (refer to the Red Wolf Coalition page for more info!)

Every call makes a difference just like every Red Wolf does. 🐾

Do you live in a state with a U.S. Senator who's on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee? North Dakota, Utah, Alaska, Nebraska, Mississippi, Arkansas, Ohio, Oregon, Massachusetts, Arizona, California, Delaware, Maryland? If you do, would you consider contacting a committee Senator to discuss potential questions for the nominee at the committee hearing?

At his Senate hearing, nominee Nesvik must be closely questioned about his position regarding the Endangered Species Act as well as about specific species such as the grizzly bear, an animal Nesvik has publicly recommended for delisting. Nesvik also must be forthcoming about his stance on endangered species recovery programs currently underway as well as about funding for these programs.

If, and only if, Nesvik passes muster at the Senate committee hearing, the full Senate would then vote to confirm him - or not. In a perfect world, this nomination would not move out of committee.

Hear ye, hear ye! We are ecstatic to have Sawyer Harris as our new entertainment director for the 2025 season of the Red Wolf Renaissance Fair.

Sawyer will be on the prowl (or should we say searching the seven seas🧜‍♀) to create an enchanting renaissance fair experience! We have no doubt with her experience flipping her fins as Mermaid Mossy, wearing the crown as queen of the Hot Springs Renaissance Fair, or performing as part of Dr. Krunkenstein and the Hillbilly Express, her enthusiasm and creativity shines through!

Spreading Holiday Cheer at Nettleton STEAM! 🎄✨

We’re still glowing from yesterday’s magical visit to Nettleton STEAM Intermediate! Alongside the Red Wolf Renaissance Fair, this has been one of our favorite moments of 2024.

With candy canes, treats, and holiday joy in tow, we shared smiles with hundreds of excited students. The highlight? Watching their faces light up when they met our knight in shining armor! 🛡️🌟

🧐 What’s on the menu for Red Wolves? Turns out, it’s a bit more complicated than just “kibble, please!”

A new study by Amy Fontaine and her team shines a light on the importance of diet and careful management for Red Wolves in human care. Researchers from North Carolina State University, the North Carolina Zoo, and Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium collaborated to examine gastrointestinal (GI) disease, a major cause of mortality for Red Wolves.

The findings suggest that including a variety of meat-based items—like small prey and larger carcasses—may improve gut health and support more natural behaviors. 🐰🦌

🐺💊 Plus, evaluating each wolf’s health is encouraged before giving certain meds (like NSAIDs) to keep our Red Wolf friends feeling their best.

With 95% of the critically endangered Red Wolf population in human care, understanding and managing their diet is essential to conservation. It’s not just kibble and bits—it’s a matter of survival! 🌱

These canid pins from the Endangered Wolf Center have us absolutely swooning! ✨

Their virtual Q and A session during the opening ceremony of the first annual Red Wolf Renaissance Fair was amazing! They shared a fascinating presentation all about Red Wolves and even answered questions from the audience. The Endangered Wolf Center plays a vital role in conserving Red Wolves and caring for a captive population as part of the SAFE (Saving Animals from Extinction) program. Be sure to plan a visit to their incredible facility in Eureka, Missouri, whenever you get the chance!
