Washington, Carter and Unicoi counties here in the Tri, were destroyed by flood waters as a result of Hurricane Helene on Friday September 27th. As the weekend progressed, I seen the devastation, especially in Erwin Tn. That following Tuesday, I went out with a search and rescue team in the Riverview Industrial Park. Being in the fire service and working floods before, the Erwin devistation was nothing I have ever seen before. The tireless effort of all the rescue crews from all over the state and some from out of state, was amazing. I would like to thank them and all the other volunteers that worked shelters, distribution centers, command post and the community for the mass amounts of donations. Jimmy Erwin of the Unicoi County Emergency Management Agency did a fantastic job on conducting Incident Command. Special thanks to the local agencies: Erwin PD, Erwin FD, Unicoi County Search & Rescue, Unicoi EMS, Unicoi Fire, South Side Fire, Limestone Cove Fire and Unicoi Sheriff’s Dept. for working around the clock not only answering “normal” calls, but also providing help with the flooding. You can go to the Unicoi County Emergency Management Agency page for more information about the flood damage, helping out and the progress of the cleanup.

We have decided to open up a program when we do sound and lighting for a local fashion show that is for fundraising. We will be offering a day of volunteering for a local high school drama/sound/lighting programs. We will let the high school pick two of their students to help with load-in/load-out, production setup and help with the show. This includes running basic light systems and getting familiar with DMX, cable routing, etc. We will have more info coming soon. This will happen on December 3rd starting at 730 am and will be an all day event. We will provide a letter of recommendation for the volunteers for their future endeavors!! Stay tuned!!
