Guests will arrive early, they always do. Make sure your music for the ceremony is started at least 20 minutes prior.

5: Don't make it impossible for guests to hear each other.

Remember, it's your Wedding, not a nightclub or concert. If it's too loud, some guests will get angry and leave. Your DJ or band should know where to play the levels, and if you ask them to turn it down and they refuse, you hired the wrong one. Also, some venues have sound restrictions, so make sure you check with them as well.

4: Choosing a really long first-dance song

You want to be able to enjoy your entire Reception, so don't choose a song that's 12 minutes long or even 7 minutes long. Believe it or not, a 4 minute song can even seem forever, Work with your DJ and/or band to see if they have the correct version as well. Of course you could always put together a nice dance routine and shock everyone.

3: Leaving out a do-not-play list

ALWAYS HAVE A DO-NOT PLAY LIST! We all have that one song that just triggers something that either puts us in a bad mood, makes us sad, or even a dance song that has been worn out. Make sure you provide your DJ or band with a list of songs that you don't want them to play.

Listening to them in a Club setting, in the car or at home is fine, but at your Wedding is not. You may like some of the songs, but chances are that it's going to offend some of your guests, especially if there are young children in attendance.

1: Playing one genre of music.

Weddings have a variety of people at them. You may be a huge Rap fan or Heavy Metal Fan, but if you don't have music for all of the different aged people at your Wedding, people will leave early. Make sure your DJ has a wide variety of music.

19: What will you wear to our wedding?

This may not seem like an important question to some, but it actually is, and here's why. If your Wedding has a them and everyone is dressed in costume, or in western attire or even beach attire, would you want a DJ that's wearing a tuxedo or suit? Or, if everyone is in tuxedos or suits, would you want your DJ showing up in jeans or shorts?

18: When is our deadline for submitting our music requests?

We always ask that you have the music list submitted to us at least 2 weeks before the wedding or event, this gives us enough time to look for it elsewhere if our normal sources don't have it. We want to make sure we get it from a good quality source with excellent sound.

17: Do you set up a sign or banner with your equipment?

You would not believe how many DJs have a banner set up at a wedding. Setting up one for other events can be okay, but not for a wedding. And the DJ should ask you if they can set one up for an event. And let's face it, some just look awful!

16: How far in advance do I need to book you for my wedding?

1 year in advance is always good. We actually have bookings 2 years in advance sometimes. We've had people actually call us a month before their wedding. We've heard too many nightmare stories about people that have booked the DJ last and they weren't able to get a good one because they didn't book them in time.

15: How much of a deposit do you require and when is it due? Do you offer a payment plan?

DJs should always request a deposit, that way it secures your date, and make sure you get a contract from them as well. As for payment plans, most DJs do accept them. We always require a 50% deposit which secures your date and we offer payment plans as well.

Of course this is an important question, and every DJ is different. Just make sure you ask them to explain why they're rates are what they are.

Every DJ should offer this, especially for a wedding. There are songs out there that are not suitable for certain events or ages, and we understand that, that's why we always ask, "Are there any certain songs or type of music you don't want?"

12: Do you take requests from our guests?

That's up to you, not the DJ, however, any DJ should be able to take requests. There are some weddings or events where they only want certain songs and don't want the DJ to take requests, or limited requests. If you do want your DJ to be able to take requests at your event, make sure he carries music that will please everyone attending.

11: Do you act as the emcee and make all of the announcements?

Believe it or not, we get this question a lot. If your DJ says that they don't do announcements, they're not a DJ, they just play music. So don't waste your money. You may as well hire a Mime that plays music, at least you'll get a little entertainment from him.

10: If the DJ scheduled for my event is unable to perform for some reason, do you have a backup ready to go?

DJs get sick, or something else happens. This is one of the reasons we always have at least 2 DJs for your event. Always make sure there is a backup!

9: How do you keep your music collection up-to-date?

We purchase our music from retail stores, Music Pools and Online Stores. If a DJ tells you that they download their music from online sources for free, be prepared for the worst!
