l Jr., “Billy”, started racing when he was 11. He was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1999 after winning more than 900 races and 69 World and National Titles in his 46-year career. He retired after the 1997 season. He won many of those races over his sons Mike who started racing at the age 13 and Tim who started at 8 and won his 1st Championship and World record at age 17. Their drive, dedication, work ethic and passion for the sport have been passed down through the generations. started racing in 1939. His drive for perfection was passed on to his son, Bill Jr. and grandsons Mile and Tim. 75 years later, sons Mike and Tim Seebold have won 61 of the 112 major Formula One races contested since the beginning of the 1995 season. The brothers have won seven North American Champ Boat titles. Before retiring, Bill Seebold won North American championships in 1989, 1993, 1994 and 1997. Mike won the title in 1982, 1992 and 2000. Tim was the champion in 1998, 1999, 2002, 2004 and 2007 and the all time winningest driver in US history with 33 victories. Tim started Seebold Sports in 1993, A Power Sports Business and the Largest Polaris Watercraft Dealer in the World for 5 straight years. Tim sold the business in August of 2014 and now is dedicating himself full time to the business of Formula One Powerboat Racing. Bill started Seebold Racing over 40 years ago and later sold to Tim in 1998. Seebold Racing is a Racing Business that specializes in designing and building the boats, motors and the many related parts for customers all over the globe. Along with developing the boats and technology they managed several powerboat teams along the way including the 28 year long run of the World Famous Bud Light Formula One Team. Tim Seebold and John Schubert Reacquire Formula 1 Powerboat Series from IHRA.
Mutually Agreed Transition Positions Championship for Continued Growth in 2027.
August 7, 2026 — Tim Seebold and John Schubert are pleased to announce that they have reached a mutually beneficial agreement with the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) to purchase the Formula 1 Powerboat Series, officially returning ownership of the championship to its longtime leaders.
The agreement marks the return of the series to two of the sport's most respected leaders while reflecting a positive outcome for both organizations, allowing each to focus on their respective strategic goals while ensuring a strong future for Formula 1 powerboat racing.
"We sincerely appreciate everything Darryl and his entire IHRA staff have done to elevate Formula 1 Powerboat Racing during its stewardship," said Tim Seebold. "The IHRA brought new energy, professionalism, and exposure to our sport, helping elevate the series and strengthen its foundation. We are grateful for the partnership and everything they have done for our teams, drivers, race promoters, sponsors, and fans wishing them continued success in all of their endeavors."
"This is truly a win-win for everyone involved," Schubert said. "We're grateful for the relationship we've had with the IHRA and proud of what we accomplished together. As we move forward, we're excited to build on that momentum and continue growing the premier powerboat racing championship in North America."
Seebold and Schubert are already focused on developing an exciting and competitive 2027 season. Plans are underway for a strong schedule featuring premier venues, world-class competitors, and renewed opportunities for teams, sponsors, race organizers, and host communities.
"Our goal is on delivering a championship that honors the rich history of Formula 1 Powerboat racing while continuing to move the sport forward," Seebold added. "We're working hard to assemble one of the strongest schedules in recent history and can't wait to share what's ahead. The future of Formula 1 Powerboat racing is incredibly bright."
The 2027 Season will see the Formula 1 Powerboat Championship returning to mainstay venues in Bradenton Florida, Port Neches Texas, Shreveport Louisianna, Marble Falls Texas, and Alton Illinois while bringing back Pittsburgh Pennsylvania for the Pittsburgh Formula One National Championships. Additional details regarding the 2027 race schedule, championship partners, and new initiatives will be made in the coming weeks.
