Let’s talk about kids:
My biggest advice for you on your wedding day is “let them”
- Do not force them to walk down the aisle, and as much as you want that to happen sometimes… it just doesn’t and that’s ok!
- They are overwhelmed on your big day, just like you. My suggestion is I highly recommend that you designate one family member to help you or hire a nanny, babysitter or even a teen cousin to watch them. A lot of family members will tell you that they will help but when it comes down to it everyone is a little overwhelmed, very excited and in most cases they are seeing relatives they haven’t seen in a long time, busy catching up or meeting new people. Your kiddo will have a safe place with one person vs the anxiety of having multiple people watch him/them.
- I encourage the family to start together at the beginning of the ceremony. This could be a “thank you for coming” a family prayer something to let your child be apart of, even if it’s only a few minutes it will make them so happy to be included and to have the spotlight on them.
- Snacks, bring the snacks… avoid things like chocolate or sticky candy. Snacks are a good bribe for photos, smiles and even just “hey one second buddy, let’s open a snack and regroup”
- Water bottles, always have on hand for your child. I encourage this because kids are thirsty throughout the day and Anyone can hand them their water bottle.
- If you are eloping I highly encourage parents to remember this is a very long day in the car, iPads, snacks, drinks, comfy clothes for the drive and then have your child change at the location. I offer my couples a little basket for their kiddos on elopement days, I hope it helps and makes them feel special.
- Remember you wont get the perfect photos but they will be your photos and that is apart of your story.
- If your child cries during the ceremony or comes up to you, let them. The beautiful thing about ceremonies is that they aren’t perfect, it’s ok to restart, take a breather, wipe your tears, hug your little one or even just take a minute to laugh.
Let them be little ❤️
