Hello Birdy🐧⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Today marks the beginning of the 48th Annual Pacific Seabird Group Meeting, which was⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
slated to take place along the stunning shores of La Jolla, CA. Sadly, due to the ongoing global COVID-19 health crisis, the conference won't happen in person, as many of us had so thoughtfully and painstakingly planned. It was a pleasure (and a total learning experience) to help this passionate group of⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
educators, students, environmentalists, government specialists and avid bird enthusiasts create a virtual conference experience ensuring their important work and scientific research could still be shared, peer recognized and furthered.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Olivia Townsend, .c.townsend. The Arctic Tern (Sterna paradisaea) and Southern Royal Albatross (Diomedea epomophora) are good metaphors for the 2021 meeting theme “Apart together,” being that the combined range of these two iconic species spans much of the Pacific and overlaps the range of many of our members who will be coming together for the first time via a virtual platform.
