December’s Trans Joy in the Skate Park is THIS SATURDAY 12/21 from 6-9pm at Goofball Sk8boards 300 W 80th St KCMO
🏳️‍⚧️ALL AGES😷MASKS REQUIRED💕SOBER SPACE🏳️‍⚧️

We will be collecting & wrapping gifts for a local QTPOC family who just lost all their belongings in a home invasion. Please bring gifts for the family: a single parent of two 8 year olds and one 12 year old, non-binary, neurodivergent, and high medical needs. The kids’ interests include dinosaurs, rocks, making art, and Transformers. We will also be accepting financial donations.

Activities at this month’s event will be:
-Arts & crafts table: supplies provided for drawing, painting, and needlework
-Game table: assorted tabletop & card games provided, or bring your own!
-Holiday movie: played via a projector screen
-Open skate park: for quad/inline skates and skateboarding
-Snackluck: some snacks & beverages to share (bring some if you have some!)

As always, we will include our resource table with everything from chest binders to Narcan, Little Trans Library & Bulletin Board. Masks are provided if you don’t have one! See ya there 💕🏳️‍⚧️

🏳️‍⚧️ Trans Joy in the Sk8 Park 🛹

Think of Trans Joy in the Park as your monthly Trans Family Reunion! Come to see your friends, make new ones, or just exist as your self around other trans people 🩵🤍🩷 4th Saturday of every month, 6pm-9pm.

Our pals at Goofball Sk8boards have generously offered to help host during these colder months while our leadership team focuses on getting a bunch of paperwork done (yippee!).

-All-ages, sober space, masks required (we have some if you need them!)
-Resource table, community library & bulletin board (take and/or donate trans-authored books & zines, gender-affirming accessories, harm reduction stuff, etc.)
-Wear something comfy & bring snacks or non-alcoholic drinks if you have some to share! The skate park is open as well so bring your wheels 🛼

🚧 Trans Joy LLC is under construction at this time.
Parker, KB, and Kipp are going to be focused on building our infrastructure. All three of us work full-time and then some outside of volunteering for Trans Joy. We will likely be unable to respond to social media messages, email response will be slow, and will be pausing all collaborations and new events to focus on some very overdue behind-the-scenes work.

We can’t wait to see you TOMORROW from 3-8pm at Goofball Sk8boards for Freedom to Be: Trans in KS & MO 🏳️‍⚧️🎨

Alongside performances, artist vendors, and food (all by trans folks!) we will be decorating two 6ft x 6ft fabric panels. One representing Kansas City and one for Eastern KS. The panels will be sent to ACLU headquarters in Washington D.C., where they will be displayed on the National Lawn on Trans Day of Visibility 2025. They will also be archived on the ACLU’s website. This means we will be creating a message to send to the nation and to future generations. A message from our trans community here in the Midwest!

The KC panel design (created by Nafasi TransCare Collective) leaves plenty of spaces for our creative community to make their own artworks within the artwork - few of the larger spaces have already been reserved by local trans artists! We will be providing all materials such as paint & brushes, glue, fabric scraps, ribbon, gemstones, faux flowers, beads, embroidery materials, etc. However, we strongly encourage you to bring “pieces of you” that you would like to add to this historical piece. That cool feather you found on the ground yesterday, the press-on that popped off but you kept it to remember your first manicure, that piece of fabric from your mom’s wedding dress - let’s make a collage of all the little moments of our wild, joyful trans lives!

This is a free, all-ages event. Face masks are required indoors.

***Edit: LAST-MINUTE LOCATION CHANGE! There is a massive wedding going on at Loose Park causing it to be mostly inaccessible (at least by car - I have been unable to park to unload the stuff). Let’s relocate to Gillham Park near the Slabs! My apologies for the inconvenience - I hope to still see some friends out today! 🫶

Head’s up - there is a massive wedding going on at Loose Park (and maybe homecoming photos or something?) making the park largely inaccessible. I have driven around for like 20 minutes with no luck finding parking to unload the car.
We may need to change locations. Is anyone already out at Loose?

It’s almost the 4th Saturday of the month so you know what that means 😍
It’s time for our KC Trans Family Reunion aka Trans Joy in the Park!

We look forward to seeing you all this Saturday, Sept 28th from 5pm-sundown at Loose Park. We meet on the west side of the park just past the tennis courts & splash park (to be closer to the restrooms).

Some items that folks regularly bring include blankets/chairs, snacks & non-alcoholic drinks, yard games, musical instruments, and of course, friends! We will be bringing the community bulletin board and little trans library, so please also bring anything you want to post on the board and trans authored/featured books & zines. This is also the time to return any books you have checked out.

As a reminder please wear a face mask if you are within 6ft of other attendees.

Next weekend is our second annual Lake Day!! We’ll be heading out to Gaea Retreat Center around 3pm on Saturday 8/24.

2ND ANNUAL TRANS JOY LAKE DAY!!

August’s Trans Joy in the Park will be our annual Lake Day & Cookout on Saturday 8/24 from 3-7pm. We will be going out to Gaea this year so we can ensure a trans-affirming space where everyone can feel comfortable swimming! We will also have potluck cookout and carpool sign-ups. Vendor spots are FREE!!
Preference will go to people of color, disabled folks, and folks in financial crisis.

The Trans Joy team will be out of our virtual office for the rest of the month as we finalize preparations for camp next week, June 27th-30th.
