Spice Bandit, LLC was founded by the Boone Family in early 2019, but the story really began over 25 years ago when Patty crashed Paul’s job interview at her family’s restaurant. In that moment, he decided he was going to marry her--she was not having that. After working together through the years and attending the University of Kansas, Patty and Paul fell in love--not only with each other--but with the Rock Chalk life and great food. Following their passion, Paul and Patty attended and helped out at the barbeque competitions of their friends and eventually set out to create a team of their own--Rock Chalk Jayhawk Barbeque.
It wasn’t long before Rock Chalk Jayhawk BBQ began winning awards, resulting in capturing the KCBS Rookie of the Year title. Over the next several years, the team won trophies from some of the most prestigious BBQ competitions in the country, including The Lenexa Kansas State contest, the American Royal Open, the American Royal Invitational, the American Royal Side Dish contest and the Jack Daniels’s World Championship contest (which now included their 6 month old, Maggie.... Emily would come to join the team a few years later).
As Paul and Patty and their Rock Chalk Jayhawk BBQ team grew in success and awards, the couple decided to open a sports bar in Olathe, Kansas. They ran their bar for over 16 years before setting out to open a Barbeque restaurant in 2014. Their menu included many of their award winning recipes such as smoked pulled pork, baby back ribs, hand cut steaks, homemade signature soups, homemade tenderloins, and always homemade salad dressings, sauces, and rubs.
After retiring from the restaurant industry, the Boone family needed an outlet for their love of great food and creation... and also needed something to do with all of their spare time, so they adopted a puppy, Bandit--who always is down for some good food--and set off to create a company to share their homemade spices and rubs with the world.
