Spring is almost here, so it’s time many of us are thinking about repotting our house plants 🪴
Have you noticed your plants tend to want more water and grow faster during the spring and summer? It’s because it’s growing season! This makes spring an excellent time to repot your plants because they’ll get the most of the additional space and fresh nutrients.
But how do you know when it’s time to repot? It’s different for every plant — some plants thrive with extra soil real estate, while others like being tight and cozy in their pot. However, one of the clearest signs that your houseplant is ready for an upgrade is by checking the drainage hole at the bottom of the pot. If there are roots growing out of the bottom, your plant is probably asking, “More space, please!”
What if your plant’s home doesn’t have a drainage hole? Another sign it may be time to size up is if you’re struggling with your water routine. Yellowing and browning leaves are often a sign of overwatering OR underwatering. If your plant’s roots are too tight in its pot, it may be becoming rootbound, keeping it from absorbing all the necessary nutrients from the water you give it.
Of course, this time of year, certain plants may be struggling with a lack of humidity and lack of light, too. Try and eliminate these variables if your plant isn’t acting its best self before repotting.
Happy planting! 🪴
