Last month, I was so honored when Emily and Ellie, the hosts of asked me to speak on the theme: VIBRANT at . I’ve been going to Creative Mornings for about a decade back when I lived in LA. It’s the most incredible group of creatives coming together to learn, inspire, and connect — so this was a real gift to be able to share with and meet so many of you who attended! Thank you for coming and bringing your energy!

And a special shout out to the featured artist of the event - if you don’t know about her, you absolutely need to! She’s vibrant on the inside and outside and real joy to be around! Plus her work is just the most colorful pieces of art!

Hey Floraloom Fam! Colleen here 👋🏼 It’s been a minute since I’ve popped in with some life and business updates! So thought I’d do a spring check-in:

🌱 For those of you new here, welcome! Glad to have you join in the Floralooming fun. Good things coming on the horizon!

🌱Last year I moved out of my studio of almost three years at .ex (so many great memories and a wonderful work family!) and now working out of my home studio (aka garage and converted basement) for the time being with baby (ahhh, the learning curve of being a mama and business owner is REAL! Welcome any all advice from all you fellow mamas out there!).

🌱 This year, I’m just focusing on event and installation work and pausing on retail florals so I won’t be offering Mother’s Day flower deliveries but can recommend so many other amazing local florists who are!

🌱Some of you know me from my bouquets. After three big beautiful years, I had to take a step back in the fall after having baby girl and .floral is now the new florist in-house there! Be sure to stop in and grab one of her lovely blooms.

🌱 Grateful for so many of you trusting me with your projects and spaces to create for you, especially now that I’m juggling a tiny human in the mix. I feel incredibly honored to be part of your visions and excited to keep growing as an artist this year!

🌱And thank you to all of my Floraloom fam here for continuing to follow along with me. I may not be posting as much on Instagram these days to connect with you, but when I do, it’s wonderful to hear from you! Your thoughtful comments make me feel so supported and motivated to keep Floralooming! And of course, my favorite is when we meet off the gram in person. Face-to-face chats is my love language. Beginning 2023, I had no idea the wonderful gifts that laid in store this year, from some of the most fun and challenging projects I’ve designed, including a new human! Thank you to all of you who have continued to root on my business and supported me in my new mom journey. 2024 is going to look just a little different, balancing mom and business, but I know we’re going to create beauty together!

After three years of flowering with , I’m taking a step back to focus on events and passing on the baton to .floral who will be taking over both the Midtown and new Leawood location.

It’s been a pleasure flowering for all of you! From holiday pop-ups, to “just because” and “self-care” bouquets to brighten up your day, to workshops, and partnerships with and local flower farmers, I’m so grateful for the opportunity to have brought a slice of Floraloom to you. Billie’s, thank you for being a launch pad for small businesses to share their creations with the community of Kansas City! Love your mission, food, and people. You’ll probably see me around still popping in for my favorite sugar cookies 🫶🏼

Hey there! Colleen checking in 👋🏼This is my official OOO post until baby arrives V soon and closing out these last few weeks preparing all the final TO DO’s for new mom life AND learning a new skill (making my own ceramic floral vessels) that I’ve been dying to do and just never had the time to do it (thank you baby for this time to slow down!). Grateful for the BEST teacher for her guidance and expertise teaching us over 4 weeks in the wonderful space.

And can I just say, I have some amazing classmates like and .kc who are keeping the energy bumpin’ — and speaking of bumps. So ready to meet this little Floraloomer.

Thanks for all the love and support and all my flower friends for jumping in and helping me out with projects while I’m away 🫶🏼

Another year with who knows how to throw a killer party! This year’s theme: Midsummer Night’s dream was so fun to run with for designing! The Polsinelli event team always comes through with a fabulous evening

As soon as guests arrived they were given a flower crown while they rang a bell on the secret garden wall where mysterious hands passed them a bubbly glass of champagne!

Are you ready for a tropical getaway?! Last week, the Floraloom team came in strong with this gorgeous colorful explosion at in for a very special celebration honoring a wonderful client!

This is my last big event before I go on maternity sabbatical for a bit and get ready for baby coming in about 6 weeks! So grateful for all my clients who give me the creative freedom and trust to design experiences like these for them and I’ll be coming back strong in 2024 🙏🏻

Mmmm, wanna know my favorite thing?! That color 💥POP 💥 against a neutral backdrop and was the perfect setting to make this rainbow wedding impactful. Brooke and Ty were intentional and kind throughout the whole process of designing their wedding and I think we, together with the rest of the amazing vendors, created some pretty epic magic together!

This ceremony backdrop was my favorite because it played such a big role throughout the day, from the ceremony, to the photo-opp, to the dance backdrop.

Winter blooms for Parachute Home opening up at Country Club Plaza

Was making a Frida Kahlo inspired headpiece for @yolitortilleria to wear during her cooking presentations at the @nelsonatkins for the Día de los Muertos festival. I was so excited that I accidentally made the crown a month too early in September instead of October (🤦🏻‍♀️) and so TRUElove Coordinating & Design decided to use it for a WAY fun flower crown photo sesh with @mcbride.photography and @westrose_photoandfilm - Talk about spontaneous creativity! Look what they created with a lil’ pop of Floraloom!

It’s a new day in Kansas City and we’re still celebrating the KC Current groundbreaking last week for the first stadium ever built exclusively for a National Women’s Soccer League, let alone for any women’s professional team anywhere in the world! And it’s being built right here in KC at the Riverfront. We teamed up with CollectiveEX to create 35 centerpieces for the VIP tent in honor of such a big milestone! What a dream to be part of this special achievement ✨ Thank you also to @sunnysidemakery @_kortney_jean and @sbhr2991 being part of the process and helping bring these art pieces to life!

About Floraloom

Meet the designer

Hello! I’m Colleen Monroe, the creative director and owner of Floraloom Studio. We’re a Los Angeles design studio focusing on custom florals and decor for experiential events, installations, retail and media projects, and our recently launched workwear line of consciously-made, well-crafted clothing for women on the go, Untucked by Floraloom.

At its core, Floraloom brings abstract ideas to life through story-driven design. I began in costume & production design for film and TV, working alongside top creatives for HBO, Warner Brothers, Fox Studios, and Mattel. Design always began by understanding the story first. At Floraloom, we approach design in the same way, designing with our client in mind and the message they are trying to communicate.

Beyond film, I took up floral design with leading designers and event studios in Los Angeles, including R. Jack Balthazar, Mark's Gardens, and Walden Floral LA, where I assisted in executing designs for companies like Netflix, Roxy, WeWork, and Create & Cultivate.
