Brooke & Dan happen to be friends of ours but that doesn't diminish the truth of their situation. The lack of press coverage & the willful ignorance of council members and THE gd MAYOR is discraceful. I've been to this farm and I know these people. is a beautiful oasis in this city and their vision for the future (OUR future) is so incredibly thoughtful and full of hope. They are GOOD for this city and make it a better place.

This post I'm sharing is the latest in a long line of communications written by Brooke to educate their supporters, detractors & the city residents at large as to what exactly is happening regarding Urbavore's situation. I suggest you go back and read past posts for an understanding of the bigger picture but if you only read this one, please tuck this info away until it's time to VOTE. These might just be "local" politics but they make a HUGE impact on our quality of life, not to mention that many locally elected leaders have ambitions to higher office.

On a personal level, I know all too well how it feels to fight for a business that is YOUR LIFE, all the while neglecting your marriage, children, home, pets & friendships. And unfortunately even when you "win" (whatever that looks like) you find there are things that broke that can never be put right. There is a crushing cumulative effect that years of fear, rage, anxiety & fight causes, so as they work to settle into their new reality please follow & share their posts, subscribe to their newsletter, take a look at their fundraising & meal train sites and when they're ready, BUY THEIR FOOD.

Many of you know that the building that houses You Say Tomato has been for sale. We've been living with the threat that we'd lose our space for the entire 19 years we've been open but in the last two years the threat has been very real, and has been weighing heavily on our shoulders.

Last week the building SOLD and to our great joy it was purchased by someone we know personally, who knows YST, respects the community we've built and best of all, wants us to stay! Fortunately our new landlord not only wants us to stay but will be making much needed improvements in the property.

Those improvements, while necessary & welcome, will likely increase our expenses (namely rent & payroll) so we need YOU, our loyal customers to remember us when it comes to catering your get togethers (big or small). We are currently doing a lot of corporate catering, individual catering & special orders for pastries, cakes, pies, quiches, etc. and are happy to take on more. We work with you to develop a menu that suits your budget as well as any dietary requirements you may have.

We plan to continue our Pizza Nights, Wednesday Grab-n-Go & Sunday Suppers. We're also working on developing some special events & workshops. If all goes well we also hope to re-open the dining room for scaled down service.

It's a super exciting time and I'm finally able to give voice to all the ideas that have been rolling around in my brain. Feel free to hit me with your ideas as well! I can't promise it will happen but the hive mind can be a powerful & useful tool.

Thanks to everyone for the love, support & well wishes as we approach our 19th birthday. It sure has been one hell of a ride!
