Being asked to recreate your own work is equal parts flattering and nerve wrecking.

Flowers never behave (or arrive) the same way twice and floral style can change over time. Not to mention each bouquet has a story. I remember every bouquet I’ve ever made.

This bouquet was made during a time in my life where there were extreme ups and downs. That day was a really good day. Getting to re-live it again (along with its 90’s soundtrack) was pleasant nostalgia.

Happy 4 year anniversary !

King Protea is the king for a reason! One of my favorite flowers as there is no other flower like it. To compare it to others is impossible. The heaviest of heads, with soft, velvety outer petals (“bracts”) that look like dragon egg scales. The delicate, inner flowers spiral out like sun rays. There is no smell, no pollen that goes everywhere, and they dry beautifully. I suppose their beauty is an acquired taste, but as someone who has tasted them all, it’s right up there in my top 5.

I think florists are daunted by the size and weight but I love the challenge. I’ve worked them into funeral pieces, installs, and even bridal bouquets, as shown here in this slide show. These are some of my very favorite bouquets ever! They make for the most unique and special presentation, never to be forgotten.

Life has been so heavy lately.

You know why I love weddings? It’s about love. Joy. Everyone gets around a couple and celebrates them finding each other. And a promise is made to stick beside each other. No matter the political climate or economy. In this crazy, messed up world, we need more of that.

Bouquets are my favorite thing to make! They are each so different with different materials, composition, and of course, a story. Each one gets made in its own unique way, with the best flowers. I look forward to them every time.

About Flaura Botanica

“Don’t you just love playing with flowers all day?!”

I wish I had a romantic story about how this business started... but it really chose me! I started with grocery store flowers. I would make bouquets with them and think, “Hmm! that would be pretty for someone’s wedding!”. I got a job at a florist and learned the basics. I took a few floral classes here in Atlanta and stretched my creative legs a bit. Then one day I did my first wedding, and it was after that I knew there was no turning back!

I love that Flaura Botanica is bespoke and original. I love the unique, the unexpected, the wild, and the romantic. I work with color and texture in nature (and sometimes elsewhere!) to tell a story that is special to my clients.

So, maybe the beginning of this flower story isn’t very romantic. But who’s to say the rest of this journey can’t be?! I look forward to the next chapter in our story.
