The last of our Friday night concert series is not one you want to miss! Based in Brooklyn but with their musicians’ roots in Puerto Rico and South America, Williamsburg Salsa Orchestra imparts its infectious energy to all.

The Williamsburg Salsa Orchestra is a thrilling large salsa group which plays dynamic, dura arrangements of indie rock tunes we love. No bananas in the hair; this is innovative, astonishing salsa with a new, vibrant aesthetic. With an ever-evolving set list that includes songs by Arcade Fire, TV On The Radio, Spoon, M83, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Black Keys, and many more, the WSO has taken the typical salsa form and infused it with a completely modern identity. The explosive arrangements have established the band as a groundbreaking force in the New York underground, and has led to international acclaim for its completely new approach to the genre.

The WSO has been featured recently at TEDx Bushwick, New Year’s Eve 2014 at The Kennedy Center, in Rolling Stone Magazine (on the Latin Hot List), and on MTV Iggy, Telemundo, Univision, and on the nationally syndicated program LatiNation on Fox. Recent shows include Blue Note Jazz Festival at B.B.Kings 42nd Street, The Brooklyn Bowl, SOBs (Sounds of Brazil), The Tribeca Performing Arts Center, Subrosa, Musikfest PA, and many more.

The first of the Summer Concert Series in July!!

This beloved group returns to celebrate the wonderful music of the Woodstock era.

In 1969 half a million people came to a small dairy farm in upstate New York.

They came to be a part of what would become an historic event. They came to be a part of “a gathering of the tribes.”They came to be a part of the music. They came to “the Garden.”

Now, over 50 years later, we invite you to return with us.

These concert series are generally offered on a pay-as-you-wish basis and take place on the Boyd Family Concert Lawn aside Lake Carmel.

Lawn chairs, food and drink are welcome. Limited refreshments will be available on site. Parking is limited so we suggest arriving at least 20 minutes before the concert.

This second Open Stage event, led by Putnam County Dance Project and joined by multiple guest dancers, gives you an intimate look at how dances are constructed and what the artists are trying to express through their particular movement/choreography.

The “Open Stage” performance will feature brand new dance works and sketches – rough draft ideas and works-in-progress followed by a casual talk-back which invites the audience to stay, enjoy a beverage and talk with the choreographers.

Final presentation of pieces will occur during the Putnam Falls for Dance weekend in September. The event is free with a suggested donation and registration is requested.

Learn more about this event at artsonthelake.org or if you are interested in presenting new choreography please email [email protected]

Alex Shundi continues his series of Art and Culture lectures with an exploration of the works of those considered outside our cultural norms. These include extremes from those considered insane, and from children who see with very different sensibilities.

This is a 6 week lecture series on the Zoom platform starting at May 1st, 7pm. We are now moving these lectures to Wednesday nights per request from previous participants.

Each session is recorded and available for review each week. Links for each session are provided on each of the days of the lectures.

If you have any questions please contact Ed Durkee at [email protected] or visit artsonthelake.org for more information.

Cadenza is coming to Arts on the Lake Soon!!

A brief description of the play includes:

What starts as a challenging encounter between a piano teacher and a manual laborer turns into an intense and surprising relationship.

With Maia Guest and Nixon Cesar.
Directed by Kym Moore, this is the seventh Hutchinson work presented at AotL.

8 weeks of intensive painting.

Through discussing and demonstration of technique with each student, Alex Shundi brings his remarkable understanding, capabilities and teaching to this class. This class has a number of students that have attended his class over a period of years because of the growth they have experienced in the work.

This class will explore the human condition through individual development of ideas with discussions on formation of concept, approaches and materials. The class is designed for students regardless of disciplines chosen: landscape, figure, still life, abstract, etc. Students should bring whatever medium is preferred and whatever previous work they would like to discuss and present.

We are so excited to announce the creation of “Lakeside”, a mixed a capella chorus to be based at the Arts Center.

The roots for this new chorus come from the founders (Robert Bradley, Wynn Gadkar-Wilcox) love of singing.

The first songs the chorus will be working on are “Blue Skies” and “Fly Me to the Moon”.

All singers are invited and welcome to join.

Come join this lecture series on Zoom! This course includes learning about how the subjects of the “new world” greatly influenced European artists when they came to the Americas. We will be exploring how this nationalistic subject turned into the creation of a huge mythology by examining the arts from all sides.

Links are provided each session and recordings of every class. There will be 6 sessions starting on January 22nd.
