I strive to live a life worth remembering, with adventure in every opportunity and music around every corner! That doesn't mean there is no rest, I have plenty of days enjoying curling up with my pup, but it does mean taking opportunities when they are presented! Even the scary ones.
I want to take a moment and share a little about my adventures. I've been a singer since I could talk, I did vocal lessons and performing arts schools, all the wonderfully geeky parts of chasing a dream. In college my love of music was slapped down by over aggressive professors and the endless competition. I felt I could never make it if this is what is was like. I'm happy to say I've now been singing professionally around my little island home for almost a year! A few resturants and backyard luaus may not seem like a lot, but the fact that I make a large portion of my income professionally singing and accompanying myself; it's enough for me to scream in joy!

Funny enough this is exactly what some tourists stumble upon as they hike around this lovely island. A silly mermaid, having my mermaid moment, swimming in a little water fall! Last time I was here I had a huge group of tourists up above who were recording and taking pictures of me. Haha! Every day is a different adventure!

This week I have had the pleasure of having @quintessencethemermaid , @the.millennial.mermaid , @vintagemermaidruby , and @deeper.diver come out to visit me! After our first shoot of the week, we all ended up on a big rock, laughing and fumbling around in fins! I'm so grateful for this goofy and kindhearted group! You'll see plenty of beautiful photos from both underwater, and chilling on the rocks, but until then, enjoy this little behind the scenes silliness! Spreading Aloha wherever we go!

My very first gig as a mermaid was at @seaquestutah before they even opened, it was too a group of bloggers who were getting an idea of what the aquarium would be like when it opened. I was so excited and proud to be the very first seaquest mermaid. I'm honestly proud to have been with them for as long as I was, seeing the local kids grow up, all the mermaid snorkels, birthday surprises and more.
While leaving them was hard, I don't regret it for a moment. Here is to more hard choices and growth to come!

The real history behind this "Atlantis"
This is Mala wharf, a beautiful artificial reef well known by tourists and locals alike. It was built and dedicated in 1922 as a fully functional pier, actually one of the top rated in its time. It's primary function was to ease the work load of freighters who had to load and unload boats for shipments from lahaina, primarily agriculture shipments such as pineapple and sugarcane. Many locals opposed this wharf as they understood the currents of the area and the vastly changing sea levels due to tides, it was still built. The very first attempt to use this wharf ended in a boat crash and damage to the structure. By the 1950s the wharf was closed for its original purpose. The wharf changed from a bustling area of activity to the artificial reef it is now when in 1992 hurricane Iniki came to town, bringing 150 mile per hour winds and over 30 foot waves with it. Tumbling the large concrete pieces of Mala to the bottom of the sea bed just 30 feet below.
Now this artifical reef has become a thriving area for local wildlife, becoming a popular turtle cleaning station, and also home to several white tip reef sharks.
