"Colors are the smiles of nature." -- Leigh Hunt

Our next artists will definitely have you smiling with delight at their bounty of colorful works! New ArtWalk Artists Marissa and Jacob with The Hippy Hut will be joining us Saturday in downtown Kilgore!

Marissa and Jacob are definitely aficionados of color! They create paintings and drawings of natural subjects done in psychedelic, vibrant hues. Mushrooms, flowers, butterflies, moons, and more shimmer, flutter, and glow in a bright array, with stark outlines or sometimes tinged with metallics. Bold and beautiful, their work is dreamy but cheerful and always delightful.

In addition, Marissa and Jacob are tie-dye artists with a sense of whimsy unfurled in rainbow swirls. Tapestries, pants, dresses, tees, bags, and more, all available in a flurry of vivid tones. While perusing The Hippy Hut, take a moment to enjoy a bit of fun, as they have musical instruments to play around with while you visit.

Marissa also offers face- and body-painting services for parties and events. Talk to her about bookings for your next event.

While they are working on building new social media and website, you can follow Marissa and Jacob's work online on their original social medias, linked below--

"Before I started painting, I thought painting was a magic that only a selected few could use." -- Yatora, from the series Blue Period

Bob Ross would definitely disagree with the idea that only a few can paint, and he's not wrong. However, there's no denying that there are some that have an unusual and epic talent, and one of those people is local artist Irene Flores!

Irene's work is in a highly detailed style that is occasionally reminiscent of Rockwell, with a touch of lighthearted whimsy that works well with the subjects of her work, which includes many anime and fantasy characters. Her precise, realistic depictions of both animated and real-life characters are visual love notes, showing an appreciation and affection for each subject that's tangible in each piece. Other pieces reflect the fantasy of their subjects, with bright colors and bold strokes.

"The true work of art is but a shadow of the divine perfection." -- Michelangelo

We have several new artists making their ArtWalk debut, and we are so pleased that they've chosen to be a part of our event. One of these is painter Jim Kisner with Legacy Artworks Gallery.

"I have been painting for 9 years now and have won some contests over the years as well as sold some paintings. I am a retired engineer and am now attempting to get my name known in the artworld." -- Artist Jim Kisner

Competing in both the East Texas State Fair in Tyler and the Texas State Fair in Dana's, Jim is certainly making a name for himself like he has planned. At the East Texas State Fair, he has won numerous Second- and First-Place awards for both landscapes and seascapes. At the Texas State Fair, Jim has won Second- and Third-Place awards for sea-and cityscapes, competing as a professional/teacher. He creates these engaging horizons in a variety of sizes. His engineering background provides an eye for detail that makes each piece captivating. Done in a classic style, his work will make a charming addition to any collection.

"People are like stained - glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within." -- Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

We are pleased to welcome another first-time ArtWalk artist, Sue Ellen Jones!

A Kilgorite by marriage, Sue Ellen works out of her studio in Winona, TX. She is somewhat new to the ETX art community but very knowledgeable in creating beautiful, unique stained glass pieces. Depicting a variety of subjects, these lovely frames are simple made to shine in the sun and would make an excellent addition to a sun room, kitchen, it any brightly-lit room with a lot of natural light to show off their allure. In addition, Sue Ellen creates whimsical, detailed Dia de los Mu***os figurines that are culturally-representative, traditional, and charming, and truly capture the spirit of the holiday and each is delightful in its own way.

We are happy to welcome Sue Ellen to Downtown Kilgore, and look forward fo seeing her presence in the East Texas art community grow!

"Sound healing isn’t making noise it’s making connection." -- Dr. Toni Sorenson

We are thrilled to announce a new performer to the ArtWalk, Sound Healer Lora Glynn!

"Sound healing is an ancient practice that uses various sound frequencies to promote relaxation, reduce stress, and improve physical and mental well-being." -- Vicki Gould, from the web (link below)

More than simply a musician or performer, Lora is a certified Crystal Bowl Healer. She plays her bowls, which sound at 432Hz, an optimal frequency for general healing and relaxation. Lora has been a practitioner since November and an enthusiast for over 8 years. She is very excited to bring this technique to East Texas. She was unable to perform in March due to a scheduling conflict, so we are extremely excited to have her this time!

Colorful, vibrant, and fragrant, candies have been a part of human history for over 5,000 years. Originally used by the ancient Egyptians, they were constructed by reeds coated in animal fats. Today we can pick up candles anywhere from dollar stores to high-end boutiques, antique stores, and a variety of small business makers and sellers in a variety of scents, colors, shapes, made from many different sources. Despite our modern technology making them unnecessary as a light source, it is unlikely that candles will disappear from use anytime soon.

Wax artist Sonia with Made-Well Candles will be joining us for the first time during the ArtWalk, bringing her unique talents and skills to Downtown Kilgore.

"Hand-poured, designer candles made with premium oils and wax in a tiny kitchen in Kilgore, Texas." -- from Facebook

With numerous looks and fragrances available in both traditional (and not-so-traditional) candles and wax melts, Sonia will have some great options for ushering in Fall, preparing for the holiday season, or unique gifts. Until the ArtWalk, check out the Made-Well Candles group on Facebook.

Visit "Co**se Grove"…the remains of a quiet little town that once housed a small but vibrant community, and a schoolteacher that everyone loved. One terrifying night it all went wrong…the townsfolk accused the teacher of witchcraft because she taught the children herbal lore. They drug her through the town and burned her at the stake. With her last breath, she cursed them all and refused to let her spirit rest until her vengeance was complete. Now she lies still and quiet in the forest...waiting...but not alone...

She cursed those who condemned her! No longer are they simple, harmless townsfolk...now they are seen for what they really are--creatures of darkness, hate, and horror. As you wander down the haunted trail, beware the tortured, terrifying souls of the Grove's residents, and pray you do not become one of them.

Co**se Grove is located in Chapel Hill, near the high school, and runs weekends through October. You can also check out their sister haunt, The Annex of Terror, located in Mineola. Both haunts are currently recruiting volunteer actors, contact them via page inbox. During ArtWalk, find represebtatives of Co**se Grove at the Eli's Belly Dance and Author Page booth.
