Mark Wischhusen passed away peacefully, surrounded in love by family and friends, on Saturday, December 17th. Mark died from complications of Hodgkins lymphoma and sepsis, at UT Hospital.
Mark, a life-long Knoxvillian, was born June 23, 1956. He attended West Hills Elementary and Bearden High School, and graduated with a BA from UT. He was a proud member of ΣAE fraternity, always a star of their Carnicus productions; his nickname was "Dad."
After working in his father's business, he settled on making a career of his passion, which was cooking. With help from special friends, in 1989 he opened Lucille's in the Old City. The restaurant, named for his mother, was renowned for great food and blues and jazz music in the courtyard. Many famous musicians passed through the club.
After Lucille's closed in 1997, Mark went into private catering, serving clients from UTK and Oak Ridge through many weddings, parties, and other celebrations.
Despite health issues related to obesity, Mark was the jolliest person on the planet. With his love of life, his incredible humor, and a heart as big as the Ritz, Mark led a joyful and fulfilled life.
Mark will be cremated and interred alongside his parents in Michigan. A celebration of his life will be held later this spring in Knoxville. Please leave your contact information with Cremation Options, www.cremationoptionsinc.com, if you would like to be informed about the celebration.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Eric and Lucille, and his brother-in-law Steve Criscillis. He leaves behind his brother Eric, of Atlanta; his sisters Dustin Criscillis, of Maryville, and Shelly (and husband Rusty Burke), of Washington, DC; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, and cousins; and 10,000 friends who loved him.
