Meet our Staff Monday: Alaina Holman

Position: Student Event Services Intern

Degree: Hospitality and Tourism Management

I chose UT one to stay close to family, and two to explore new beginnings and make memories.

A few fun facts about me are I love to cook/bake, I enjoy the cold months more than the hot months, my favorite color is maroon, and I absolutely adore Rottweilers and Golden Retrievers.

Chancellor Donde Plowman spoke at the UT Division of Research Administration and Division of Research Integrity & Assurance Retreat in the UT Conference Center Ballroom!

We provided beverage services and breakfast snacks in the Atrium as well as on-site catering for lunch for about 65 participants. We also provided Audio/Visual Equipment and tech support throughout the day.

On Thursday, Bike Walk Tennessee hosted a bike ride around Knoxville and their conference took place at the UT Conference Center today!

We provided our on-site catering for about 75 participants and audio-visual coordination. They used our Atrium for vendors and bike displays as well as Suite 406 for meeting space.

Today, high school ASL students were here at the UT Conference Center with UT Deaf Studies!

We provided our on-site catering for about 150 participants. We had the food set up in the Atrium and the students ate in the Ballroom.

Why I love UT: I love UT because everyone is so passionate about the university and their jobs. Every person I have met along the way at UT has been so supportive and encouraging of my goals.

Meet our Staff Monday: Drew Bryant is our Event Administrative Specialist.

Drew Bryant has been with the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, since 2014. He started out with the University of Tennessee Police Department as a Campus Security Officer before becoming a Communications Officer and Central Alarm Administrator. He loves UT and helping the community and others in any way he can.

He was born and raised in Knoxville but loves to visit any place with a beach. Some of his hobbies and passions include writing, reading, and singing.

The Utilities Technology Council Fall Meeting was a three-day conference held at the UT Conference Center.

They used almost all of our meeting spaces as well as our dining room. We provided our on-site catering for about 45 participants per day.

The UT Conference Center’s Atrium is the place where people come to meet.

It is the main gathering location for groups using the Center. The Atrium is an ideal place for breaks or networking receptions.

Many groups use the Atrium to greet their conference guests and hold their event registration check-in. This part of the Center is also an ideal location for a limited number of exhibitor displays.

The 11th Annual Big 4 Cancer Conference took place at Dollywood's DreamMore Resort and Spa in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

The Agile Fleet Commander Conference took place this week at the UT Conference Center.

We provided our on-site catering for about 50 participants each day for the three-day conference. Our on-site catering included a breakfast buffet, beverage services, snacks during breaks, a lunch buffet, and a reception in the dining room for dinner.

Haslam College of Business - UT conducted speed interviews for MBA/MS students within the Supply Chain Management Program in the ballroom.

During the BEST Man Forum, author Richard Reeves of “Of Boys and Men” spoke during lunch.

We provided our on-site catering for about 120 participants. Our on-site catering included a breakfast buffet, beverage services, house-made cookies and chips for snack breaks, and plated lunches in the dining room.

Fun facts: I was born into the service industry. When my grandfather John Captain came to America from Greece, he worked from 1946 to 1997 with his Uncles Sam & Andy on the strip. He then opened his own Sam & Andy’s which operated until 2002. When I was born, Sam & Andy’s was the first place my parents took me out of the house!

While many of the smaller breakout rooms can be adapted to seat small groups for meal functions, our main Dining Room is permanently dedicated to our client’s food service needs.

The dining room is ideal for most lunches and dinners for groups up to 180. For larger groups, the Ballroom can accommodate up to 300.

Meals of all kinds are available ranging from full table service menus to bountiful buffets can be provided. Our full-service kitchen makes it possible to provide your conference with everything from a soup and sandwich lunch for 10 people to a semi-formal banquet for 300 with full table service.
