Sarah E. Photography Colorado based wedding & couples photographer - specializing in capturing wedding days authentically I’m here to tell your story. It’s your love.
(20)

Not just take pretty pictures - although I will do that too. I want to tell the truth through photographs. To share the reality - that your wedding day is the one day all of your closest friends and family are in one place at the same time. All there to celebrate and witness your beautiful union. No matter what that looks like I’m here to tell that story.

100’s of first looks happen every sing

le wedding day - with your mom, your dad, your siblings, grandma, your dog (dog mom over here🐶 ). These moments aren’t posed or created for the sake of photos, but are moments happening all around you, all day long. There are so many stories unfolding from many different perspectives. I want to share as many of those stories as I can. Consider me your wedding day historian. I’m at your wedding to capture history in the making as you and your partner celebrate the start of a new marriage, a new journey and commemorate all of the people who helped you get to this day. A wedding day is just one tiny glimpse of your story; it’ll be gone before you know it. Don’t let the day slip by because it’s full of photo ops or perfectly posed moments. Your wedding day is so much more than photographs, it’s stories, histories and it’s the start of your marriage. You share a love that is unlike anyone else’s - unlike what you’ve seen on Instagram and Pinterest. Love shared with your partner in a way only you two know, it would be a disservice to you to try to fit into someone else’s memories, someone else’s story, or someone else’s posed photographs. I’m here to tell your story - one that’s never been told before - I here to capture the moments as they unfold, honestly and authentically. I’m here to capture your relationship, your family and your friends for the unique and beautiful people they are. I’m here to serve you in any way I can. I’m here for you.

Allie and Jayce celebrated their wedding day in Steamboat, Colorado, Allie and Joyce’s favorite place.

Allie grew up visiting Steamboat each year, skiing and spending time with her dad.

Allie and Jayce spent the start of COVID quarantine in Steamboat to escape the city and enjoy the mountains with their pups.

Sadly, their dog Sadie passed away just a few months before their wedding day. To honor Sadie, Allie and Jayce spread some of Sadie’s ashes in their favorite spot - to live in the mountains forever.

As someone obsessed with my pups, I struggled to hold back tears as they shared this moment: if only dogs could stay with us on earth forever.

When gifted a custom shot ski on your wedding day, you don’t wait till you get home to unwrap it!

Anna and Ben celebrated with their closest friends and family in the smoky mountains last fall. They shared 2 cabins with everyone the week leading up their wedding day, savoring time with everyone who came to enjoy the mountains with them!

Growing up so close to the smoky mountains, I can definitely say I took it for granted. It took returning to Tennessee for a season to realize just how amazing the Smoky really are.

As I approach another trip around the sun, another year of life, I find a deeper urge to slow down and truly appreciate and admire all that’s around me.

Grateful I got to revisit the Smokys with fresh eyes

Nothing quite like a mom’s hug on your wedding day.

These moments connection and sharing tradition are the sweetest.

Julie and her mom exchanged a handkerchief for the tears and a sixpence for good luck just before walking down the aisle.

The Garrisons - pt. 1

The day started with tears in my eyes, gratitude filled my heart as I walked into the home where Case and Celeste got married.

The mountains views, the swirling of friends and family prepping for the big day hit me with such deep honor that I was invited in to document their intimate celebration.

and I must be on the same wavelength lately because our current text thread is recounting how many times we’ve cried each day. Gratitude, stress and every emotion in between.

In case you’re wondering my count yesterday was 3 times 😂

On Case and Celeste’s wedding day it was also 3, once in the morning watching the eclipse, once listening to worship music on my drive to the venue, and once as I walked into their venue overwhelmed by feelings of gratitude.

Heading to the land of golden leaves to soak up the last bit of fall before winter hits

Colorado is the most magical place but there’s something extra special about Colorado in the fall

Maybe I’m partial because my dog is literally named after my love for Aspen trees but the golden hues and the way Aspen leaves dance in the wind make me giddy just thinking about it

Alison and Nick’s story started 34 years before their wedding day - when both of their parents unknowingly got married just a few hours apart - and now, on Sept 2nd, 2023, Alison and Nick celebrated their wedding day and carry on the Sept 2nd anniversary tradition.

Married in their backyard in a pink dress with their closest friends and family. Frozen margaritas flowed into cups with their cat Cooper on the front, cheesy grits from their favorite restaurant where they go for every holiday meal, and 6 different cakes from their favorite bake shop so their friends and family can try them all.

What an incredible day filled with intention and tradition, and what an honor it was to document it for Nick and Alison.

Max + West | 07.30.22 | Buena Vista

“To infinity and beyond.”

West ended his vows by saying “to infinity." Max replied, “and beyond." -- as they joined their fingers together at the alter. All the guests burst out in laughter and sighs of awe as they watched Max and West exchange beautifully written personal vows.

After a 3 year wait, Max and West finally celebrated their wedding day with all of their friends and family members.

They joined together at the foot of the collegiate mountains and beside the Arkansas river to celebrate ether wedding day in one of their favorite places.

The love these two share for each other, their friends and family members is unlike anything I have seen. The intentionality in everything they did and who they shared their day with was beautiful to watch.

And they did so in style - Max thought through every detail of the day, from adding a champagne wall, a champagne b**g during their recessional, light-up dancing shoes to a sax and violin player - they had one heck of a party to celebrate their next journey.

More photos to come, for now a little collage from their celebration.

Audrey + Connor + Jam | 06.20.22

Taking a break from wedding content to share a few photos from Audrey and Connor’s engagement session.

I drove back down the rocky dirt road with the biggest smile after last night. Being in the mountains, hanging out with Audrey, Connor, and their dog Jam was just what I needed in the middle of this crazy wedding season.

The light illuminated the mountain face and bounced back onto the river below, leaving me in complete awe - the water was so firey orange, I had never seen anything quite like it.

I don’t have many words tonight, just a smirk on my face and joy in my heart. And a plan to get outside more this summer - even in the heat and chaos of wedding season.

I can not wait to witness Audrey and Connor’s wedding celebration in Idaho this August.

*the app I used to make this crashed 1000 times, so please show it some love 😂*

Those moments just after the ceremony are some of the sweetest I get to witness. Everyone gathers for hugs and celebration; tears are dried, laughs are shared and the reality that two people are officially married sets in.

There’s no rush to do anything but celebrate. Those family photos can wait - these are the moments of your wedding day you will remember forever.

Don’t rush them for the sake of photos - soak them in.

Claire + Mose | 1.29.22

A day filled with joy, laughter and intention.

Sharing a few moments of their day

The moment….
Claire saw herself as a bride for the first time
Claire tried to calm her nerves before she saw Mose for the first time
Claire and Mose laughed as everyone told Claire how beautiful she looked but didn’t tell Mose how handsome he looked
The two laughed over how Claire skipped through her vows because she was getting emotional
Claire and her family waited for the ceremony to begin and celebrated after the ceremony with champagne
Claire and Mose tried to figure out how to cut their cake

I am so honored to have witnessed these moments so many more.

I have so many stories and moments to share from the past year and in the coming months. Not sure I will ever actually catch up.

10.30.21 | Kim + Nick

The most amazing fall day, celebrating with friends and family.

Groomsmen helping shave each other’s heads.

Sharing a glass of champagne with the wedding party, poured from the trunk of a bridesmaids rental car.

Kim and Nick hanging on to their marriage license tight hoping it doesn’t fly into the lake.

Exchanging vows and traditions in the place Kim and Nick now call their home.

Post ceremony hugs with grandma followed by a dance party to Lizzo in the mountains.

A day honoring the 10 years Kim and Nick shared to get to this day and celebrating their future together.

Trying one of these carousels for the first time.

A day spent picking leaves out of Kate’s veil.

Talking through cracked doors while getting ready.

Family members pulling out all the stops to get, Kate and Mike’s son, Logan to smile.

Soaking in the last bit of fall at the chateau.

Surprising friends with music during cocktail hour, and FaceTiming grandma to share in the celebration.

A day spent documenting Kate and Mike’s celebration with their friends and family - don’t miss more moments in my story (or highlights)

The beer donkey thought Danielle’s dress looked tasty and tried to take a bite out of it.

Flower girls twirled for grandpa and held on tight to mom when they were so sure about the lady with the camera.

Alexander, Danielle and Tommy’s son, watched as mom and dad got married.

Danielle ditched her heels before the reception and Tommy stole a kiss as they went to meet their friends.

It was my honor to witness these two begin their marriage together!

Don’t miss my story (or story highlight) for more from their day!

I missed adding this photo to the set from John and Jessica’s wedding day.

It’s one of my favorite images from their day.

Shot through Jessica’s brother and sister sharing well wishes and advice with John and Jessica after their ceremony.

The way Jess is looking at John and the emotion I can feel remembering Jess’s siblings share their wishes brings me right back to that moment.

Also, forgetting to share this photo feels very representative of how my brain feels lately - scrambled - like I am always missing something and feeling behind on pretty much all things in life.

Back to editing I go.

10 tiny glimpses into John and Jessica’s wedding day last month.

I wish I could share 1000 more photos from this day - but I guess that would also mean I need to post more than once in a blue moon.

I will let the photos speak for themselves today because I am working on getting wedding galleries finished before leaving for a crazy wedding weekend traveling all over Texas.

So many sweet moments and stories to share from their wedding day celebration in Buena Vista.

Like grandma and grandpa sharing a hug right after the ceremony.

Their wedding party doing chamb**gs instead of traditional wedding party photos.

Shelby and Aaron officiating their own wedding day.

Or their dog, Lincoln, signing their marriage license as their witness - yes, you can do that in Colorado and now I wish we did that too 😂.

Shelby and Aaron left behind whatever wedding traditions weren’t “them” and spent the day being present with their loved ones.

What an honor it was to be invited into.

09.08.21 | Brittany + Michael

Brittany and Michael invited me to Michael’s family cabin in Clark, CO, to document their relationship.

It was an honor to be welcomed into a place that means so much to both Brittany and Michael.

The place their relationship started.

The place Michael watched his parents build and spent many days exploring as a child.

And now the place they get to share together.

And you certainly can’t beat the views of Hahn’s peak just around the corner.

I have so many weddings and sessions to share, I have fallen a bit behind, so I’ll probably be sharing way out of order 🤷🏽‍♀️

But I’ll be trying to share more in the middle of this crazy season.

Also, don’t miss the last pic 😂 Hank was very excited Mom and Dad came back to him.

Libby + Shaheen | 08.14.21

I don’t know how I am supposed to choose just 10 photos to share from Libby and Shaheen’s wedding day.

It was a celebration worth waiting for, that’s for sure!

When we first spoke, Libby and Shaheen shared how they wanted to share their love for the mountains with their families and friends from all over the country.

And you couldn’t pick a better place to do that than in Vail, CO. They exchanged vows beneath the mountain tops and Aspen trees.

When I think back on their wedding day, one word comes to mind - FUN

The joy that Libby and Shaheen carry was so tangible on their wedding day. You could feel the excitement in the air.

They were truly enjoying the day to the fullest, and that’s what wedding days should be all about.

Celebrating with friends and family as you join together with your best friend!

Matty + Emily | 08.07.21

Hard to believe it’s already been 3 weeks since this incredible day. And it’s been over a month since I posted on Instagram 🙃 oops.

Traveling all over the country and documenting so many celebrations has made sharing on Instagram go to the bottom of my to-do list

Currently on my way to Denver to head to Texas for more weddings and shoots!

But enough of my chaotic schedule - I’m so excited to share some glimpses into Matty and Emily’s wedding day.

A day over 2 years in the making due to Covid. I hadn’t seen Matty and Emily since their engagement session in May of 2019.

But man was it worth the wait. They got to celebrate their wedding with their closest friends and family members in Oahu, HI. The place Matty grew up visiting and that holds a special place in Matty and Emily’s hearts.

And as Emily said in her vows, hopefully, the place they will live one day so she no longer has to hear Matty complain about Colorado being so 🤬 cold 😂

It was a day filled with fun, relaxation, and intentionality. I could feel the love that their friends and family shared and their excitement as they said I do 10 years in the making.

Can’t wait to share more on the blog soon!

Let’s talk about “in-between moments” for a second…

The ”moments” photographers try and capture between the posed and curated images.

Guess what? Those aren’t the in-between moments.

Those are the moments, that is the wedding day.

Your wedding day is not the hour-long posed photo session that turns the wedding more into a photoshoot.

This app and social media, in general, have placed so much importance on perfected sunset portraits - they’ve taken priority over people, their stories, and interactions.

It places even more pressure on creating moments than capturing them.

Every time I hear “in-between moments”, I get a little sad.

Those in-between moments that everyone raves about capturing are even curated between posed moments.

I feel like we’ve strayed away from capturing wedding days honestly and steered toward turning them into photoshoots. Sadly, sometimes for the photographers’ gain and not for serving clients and their families.

My goal with capturing any wedding day is to serve my couple by quietly documenting whatever is happening.

So 30 years from now, when they share their photos with family, friends, maybe even their children - their photos share the truth of the day.

Not a collection of fabricated moments.

Before you freak out, this doesn’t mean I won’t take any “posed” images.

Most of my couples want guided portraits, family photos, wedding party group shots and those honest moments captured - there is a balance to all this!

I never want to lose sight of what a wedding day is truly all about - a day for two individuals to be married.

Mac + Danielle | 6.20.21

Mac and Danielle came from Chattanooga, TN, to exchange vows beneath Maroon Bells.

It was the sweetest celebration with all of their people in the most beautiful place.

I want to share the stories behind some of the moments from their day:

1 - Mom and Dad watching front and center as their little girl gets married.
2 - Mac and Michael practicing their vows and sermon before getting ready and cracking up over how they couldn’t get it right.
4 - Danielle’s mom and bridesmaids cutting her veil because the bridal boutique gave her the wrong one.
5 - Said veil flying out of Danielle’s hair a few minutes into the ceremony because the wind was insane.
6 - Mac scooping up his bride right after they said I do
7 - Sharing their first dance in the mountains, listening to Taylor Swift on Danielle’s phone

These are the moments that inspire me to document every wedding day as honestly as possible.

These are the stories and moments of a wedding day, this is a wedding day, the things that went well and the things that didn’t go as expected. The real-life moments that make up each day, not just the perfectly posed sunset portraits you see on Instagram.

These stories are a true honor to document.

Joe + Ryne | 6.14.21

I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many people cry and laugh at the same time during a ceremony before.

Joe and Ryne’s people celebrated their love like no other, there wasn’t a dry out in the crowd while Joe and Ryne exchanged vows.

And there wasn’t a quiet voice in the crowd when Joe said “what?” instead of repeating his vows after the officiant. (see photo 6)

I wish I could share 40 more photos but they’ll have to wait for now.

So honored to be invited into their wedding day.

Who is Sarah?

It’s me Sarah!

The one tearing up behind the camera at some point on your wedding day, ya that may be lame, but I can’t help it, love gets to me. And I’m a crier.

Like the type of person who cries because there’s a cute dog on T.V. or the person who cries when any sports team wins a major championship because they’re just so overwhelmed with joy. At this point, my fiancé just looks over and laughs because it happens way too frequently.

If you can’t tell, I’m a feeler. An INFJ a 2w1 2w3 (I can’t decide). Sharing in case those numbers and letters mean something to you.
