Today’s card is the Queen of Coins! I like to call this card the quintessential Ta**us Woman or the Treat Yo’self card. As you can see, she is dripping in her diamonds, pearls, and furs because she’s worked hard to achieve them and therefore she now gets to enjoy them. Get yourself some of those things you’ve been saving up for! Get that cup of coffee! Buy that necklace! Have a nice dinner! Get a spa treatment if that’s an option! What’s the point of working hard if you can’t enjoy the fruits of your labor?

Today’s card is the Five of Cups. We’re feeling a bit disappointed or disillusioned in something. Maybe we realized that making New Year’s resolutions are kind of bu****it. Maybe we’re unpacking some family trauma. In the classic Rider/Waite/Smith deck this card is depicted with a person standing there and looking down at these three goblets they’ve knocked over all disappointed, with their head in hands. If they’d just turn around and look behind them, they’d realize that they have two perfectly good goblets right there. All they have to do is clean up their mess and move forward. So, quit focusing on the negative, clean up, and move on.

This week’s card is the Four of Wands. Tjis card symbolizes a celebration of family and community. It could be a wedding, a birthday, or just a neighborhood bbq. Something that gives us a reason to celebrate within the home. Seeing as we’re only six days into the New Year it begs the question: how are we celebrating our home life? Are we giving those the credit they’re due? Are we telling our loved ones that we’re proud of them for their achievements? Are we making sure home is a place that those we love and care about feel safe and comforted?

Today’s card is the 10 of Wands. I like to call this one the “adulting card.” Responsibilities suck. They’re burdensome, cumbersome, and sometimes crippling. But when we accomplish the task we ser out to do, the feeling we get is just so satisfying. So just do the damn thig, get it done and over with, and then when you relax, you’ll feel as though you’ve earned it. I’ll be here at Makers Mart till close to 7:00 pm. The Concise and Comprehensive Conservative playbook by Rich Jerrido:

Step 1: Demonize a publicly funded service.
Step 2: Obtain political power.
Step 3: eviscerate the funding for the targeted service while demanding more of those providing the service.
Step 4: enact “reforms” aimed at weeding out efficient, qualified, and motivated providers of the service as “cost savings” and “efficiency boosters”.
Step 5: Demonize the targeted institution as an example of the inherent ineptitude of publicly funded services.
Step 6: Push legislation to redirect public funding to private sector competitors of the targeted public service, emphasizing religious institutions as the recipients of those tax dollars.
Step 7: Champion the private sector alternatives, even if they are out of the price range or bear too high of an opportunity costs for anyone living at or below the medium income for the legislator’s jurisdiction.
Step 8: Continue eviscerating public expenditures for the public option and complain that its not an effective service provider.
Step 9: Rinse and repeat Steps 1-8, while enacting half-baked token measures to “improve” the public service with populist “reforms” that actually further undermine the public service provider’s ability to perform.
