Today I had the privilege of officiating an elopement ceremony for a lovely and adventurous couple! And as a first for me, we had the ceremony on a dock over a frozen lake in the snow. Tonight theyā€™ll be celebrating with some night skiing! Congratulations to the new Mr. and Mrs.!

Happy Autumn! Through the years autumn has been my busiest season for weddings. Understandably so! There's something about the sun that shines in a way that makes everything look like it's glimmering with gold. Good morning! Have you ever heard someone say to a distraught bride on her rainy wedding day not to worry because rain on your wedding day is good luck? Well, here is why!

Many, many years ago, especially in the Celtic regions of the world unions were signified in handfastings. (Also where the phrase ā€œtying the knotā€ originated!) A coupleā€™s hands are literally bound together and knotted in bits of cord, ribbon, tartans, or cloths. As we all know when fabric gets wet, like in the rain, the fabric tightens up. So when a coupleā€™s hands were bound together and it rained it made the knots all that much tighter! Thusly making the bond between the couple even stronger, tighter.

We are getting close to my first coupleā€™s fifth wedding anniversary! I was very pregnant. It rained (which is good luck on your wedding day). It was beautiful! The vows these two wrote to one another still cross my mind to this day. They were perfect. Dee and Chris got married at the summer camp that they had met at years before finding forever in one another. Happy early anniversary, beautifuls, may your love continue to grow and surround you for all of the years too come!
