Grey Area Productions is the Pump House's in house theater company, a great group of talented and creative people. With each performance they put on they have the amazing ability to transform our space. A lot of hard work goes into putting on these plays, not only in the acting but in the set design which includes lighting and sound. Check out some of the sets from their previous productions, some simple and some intricate. An added bonus, each included a special way to include the audience.

Come join in on a silent retreat as "Small Mouth Sounds" kicks off this weekend and next to see how our theater transforms into a setting that takes place outdoors by a lake and in some cabins.

In the overwhelming quiet of the woods, six runaways from city life embark on a silent retreat. As these strangers confront internal demons both profound and absurd, their vows of silence collide with the achingly human need to connect. Filled with awkward humor, this strange and compassionate play asks how we address life’s biggest questions when words fail us.

What if the true path to inner calm and enlightenment was through silence?

This is the question facing six troubled souls who have signed up for an intense meditation and healing session in a rural retreat in Bess Wohl’s play, Small Mouth Sounds.
At this New Age seminar in the woods, the participants will hear lectures from a slightly unbalanced self-actualizing guru.
There will be question and answer periods.
And there will be swimming in the nearby lake.
But there will be no talking.
How will they cope for five days without saying a word? Watching these emotionally exhausted people trying to access their best selves while navigating everyday problems and confronting existential questions — in silence — is unlike any other theater experience.

'Small Mouth Sounds' a play by Bess Wohl presented by Grey Area Productions opens THIS WEEKEND at the Pump House.
Tickets only $25 (discounts offered for PH members and students/military) available at the Pump House, over the phone 608-785-1434, online or at the door day-of.

Her workshop 'Introduction to Abstract Painting' will cover the basics of abstract painting in this group painting experience that celebrates creativity! Participants will work on paper and canvas. No skills or prior painting experience are necessary.
This workshop is about energizing your creative instincts and discovering how it feels to set aside your inner critic and let go!

Connection. Culture. Community.
The Pump House loves being able to create and maintain connections in the La Crosse Community. A connection we are honored to hold is with the Ho-Chunk Nation. We currently have a new gallery exhibition called “People of the Woodland Tribes” featuring works by Indigenous artists.
Something special about the connection between this exhibition, the Pump House and the Ho-Chunk people is that one of the featured artist and his work in the gallery is also a part of our mural on the side of the Pump House. That something being a vest made and worn by Levi Blackdeer is seen on the mural and is a part of the featured exhibition.

Another connection is this Hear, Here story by Tracy Littlejohn. Check it out to learn more about our mural and Ho-Chunk history connection. https://www.hearherelacrosse.org/stories/tracy-littlejohn/
“And I think it is just a great thing to see and to remind people of everyone that’s been here, not just in the last hundred years but everyone who’s been here.”

PHRAC acknowledges that it occupies the ancestral lands of the Ho-Chunk, who stewarded this land before time immemorial. PHRAC seeks to connect learn, exchange, and share across cultures, increasing understanding and decreasing misunderstanding, fear and biases.

Group Gallery Exhibition on display at the Pump House in the Front Gallery from November 6th, 2024 – January 4th, 2025 with an Art Reception & Perfromance on Friday, November 8 from 5-8pm. More information here: https://www.facebook.com/share/18TE2EZQuv/
