Last weekend, I had the pleasure of meeting the sweetest couple expecting their first baby. Everyone, Meet The Caldwells! We had a blast walking around Downtown Lake Forest, enjoying the beautiful day. It was a bit cold, but thankfully some Starbucks warmed us right up. Here is a sneak peek at their maternity session. This week I was able to capture my first newborn lifestyle session since moving to Chicagoland. Oh, what a joy it was!

I met with the sweetest little family, who were just so excited for their first family session together! We had the best time taking portraits of their sweet family, adorable newborn daughter, and as well just enjoying some fun holiday-themed portraits.

One of the reasons I love lifestyle photography the most is the fact that families can just be themselves, relax, and just have some fun. This is exactly what this sweet family did this weekend at their family session.

This last weekend, I met up with The Barton Family at Independence Grove in Libertyville. It was a cold day, but oh the sun was shining. We spent their session walking around, laughing a bunch, and just enjoying the day around us. Their daughter was in love with all the leaves and sticks on the ground, and just had a blast enjoying the nature around her.

Oh, what a fun session this was!

This last weekend, the forecast stated it was going to rain. A day where I had a family session scheduled here in Lake Bluff.

Typically, a lot of people reschedule. However, not for this adventrous and fun family. Instead, we decided to just have some fun and enjoy a little bit of rain.

So we met up for a mini session of playing in the rain, enjoying the beautiful forest around us, and just had a blast. Granted, we got soaked and it was cold. This was hands down one of the best sessions I've had. The laughter, the adventure, all of it was awesome.

Plus they brought the cutest umbrellas which made my photographer's heart soar. Aren't these so fun and cute?

Nothing makes me happier as a photographer than having the chance to capture two people in love. Shawn and Haley were not only one of the sweetest couples I've met. A few years ago, I began a journey unlike any other. A new start that would change my life forever. In the midst of my change in life, I found myself reaching out to others who were enduring or had endured what I was going through. In this process, I ended up meeting one of my favorite human beings ever. A person who was there for me even as I would lay in the hospital, someone who I wouldn't even meet for another year due to the pandemic. Someone who was there for me even virtually, and constantly was the best support and more.

This incredible person is Learha. Someone who has not only become such a great friend of mine, but also someone who truly will forever be a part of my life. Even with us being military wives and having distance between. We still will see each other, and will forever be a part of each other's lives.

Fortunately, we both are from the same hometown. Therefore, during Thanksgiving break. I was able to see her, and her sweet little family. It was the best time, and I was so elated to be able to see her again. The best part was we finally were able to get her family session done!

I loved every second of it and was so glad I got to see her while I was visiting my family. From the laughs we had, the rapping I did terribly, to her adorable and hilarious daughter's facial expression. It was the best day. Here is a sneak peek at their session!

One thing I love about being a photographer is having the chance to do all kinds of photography. Typically, I specialize and do family and couple sessions more. However, I love having the chance at doing other kinds of photography as well! Which I had the honor of doing last month when I was asked to capture senior portraits for one of my clients.

Let's just say, I had an absolute blast doing these and love how they turned out. Working with Ashton was so fun, and we had the best time. Granted it was cold, the ground was muddy, but we made it work and she did fantastic! I wanted to post a look into her session, as I am quite in love with how they turned out! 🖤

Happy December!

I’m beyond thrilled to be enjoying my first ever December and Christmas here in Chicagoland this year. What a year it has been so far, and I am beyond excited for what more is to come in this month alone.

To celebrate my first December and Christmas here in Chicagoland. I’ll be offering mini sessions all month, and as well discounted pricing for all other packages.

So many of you have already booked, and I am beyond thrilled. I’d love to as well let anyone still needing holiday portraits. I have dates and times still open for December! I’ll be disclosing on this post the dates and times I have open for the rest of December.

Any other dates not listed, I won’t be available or I am booked.

With Christmas right around the corner, I know many of you are needing portraits and as well a faster turnaround. This is my busiest time of year, however, I am still ensuring to have all galleries to any of my clients within a week. However, as per usual, I will post or send any of my clients to sneak peeks within 48 hours of the session.

I’m so excited for this time of year, and can’t wait for more holiday fun.

Last week, I met up with the incredible Jessen family in Libertyville at Independence Grove Preserve. We had the best time walking around, singing songs from Frozen, and enjoying the beautiful evening that surrounded us!

Hello Everyone!

It’s truly the most magical time of year. The holidays are quickly approaching, and it’s the best time for portraits. Starting December 1st through the end of December. I will be doing holiday mini sessions discounted at $150, and as well offering discounts from $25 up to $50 off for each of my higher-priced photography packages.

I’m just starting to book for December, therefore I do have availability as of right now! Each session booked can be either outdoors or indoors. Due to the possibility of snow or bad weather here in Chicagoland, sessions can be planned for indoors. However, any session booked indoors has a limit of five people only and as well lifestyle-themed sessions as well. Masks as well will be required for any indoor session when not taking pictures! A small non-refundable retainer is due at booking as well!

I’m beyond thrilled for my first Christmas time here in Chicagoland! Therefore, I am excited about some holiday mini sessions and more. Last weekend, I met up with The Hunt family at Fort Sheridan. We had the best time exploring the old base, enjoying the beautiful day outside, and eventually discovering a part of the open lands in the preserve. We truly had the best time and was hands down one of my all-time favorite sessions. Nothing is better than a morning family session by the beach.

This weekend, I had the pleasure of meeting up with a sweet little family in Lake Bluff. It was a beautiful Sunday morning, the sun was shining, beautiful trees all around, people walking their dogs, and Lake Michigan in the background!

It was the perfect day, with the perfect little family!

This weekend, I met up for a fun afternoon session with The Jaramillo Family! We met up at the Middlefork Savana Preserve and it was the best time.

Not only were they the sweetest family. I laughed a ton, played with their sweet little ones, and had a blast in the process. It was the best time, and I absolutely loved working with them.

This past weekend I met up with the sweetest little family for a session in Libertyville! After a gloomy few weeks, the sun came out and the day was beautiful. It was the perfect day for a session.

From the very beginning, we had an absolute blast! We enjoyed the beautiful day and the location at Independence Grove Preserve. We laughed a ton and truly just enjoyed our session.

Hello Facebook!

It’s been a minute, but I’m still hanging in there. Let me just say, how much I miss the sun in California. However, I’m still loving life here in Illinois.

Life has been up and down lately for me personally. Mostly in the aspect of my health. However, I’m still moving along and living life.

This past weekend, I finally got back out there and launched my fall sessions. I’m beyond elated for more fall sessions to come, and to enjoy this amazing season again.

In the swing of the new season. I figured it was time for some new headshots.

So I had my awesome husband capture these this weekend while I was on location for a session. Minus the mosquitoes, we had a blast. He truly is my designated photographer for life. I’ve trained him well right? Literally, he is the best second shooter there is.

This past weekend, I finally kicked off my Fall Mini Sessions here in Illinois. Let me tell you, what a fun time it was! 📸

Hello Facebook!

I figured it was a great time to introduce myself to everyone. Whether you are just now following me, or have known me forever. It’s time for an introduction!

My name is Kathryn Lonas, and I am a Lifestyle and Elopement Photographer. I’m currently based in the Northern Suburbs of Chicago, close to Lake Bluff. I specialize in family photography, couple photography, and small weddings.

Since I was young, I’ve always loved photography. It wasn’t until I was in high school, where I started to really become passionate about. In which led me to becoming a photographer eleven years ago almost.

Photography is a big part of my life. In fact, it is just one of the major things that makes me, me. As it is something that constantly challenges me, I’m passionate about, and calms me down. The idea of capturing something to last a lifetime. It’s just fascinating to me. As well the reason I love what I do.

Here is some fun facts about me: I’ve lived all over as I am proud military wife, and have been married for ten years to the best guy around. Even all these years later, and he is still that person who makes me laugh most and supports me endlessly.

I’m a huge coffee enthusiast, and love coffee shops. I am a lover of writing, and hope to write a book one day or create a blog. Who knows right? My favorite television show is Gilmore Girls. The fall is my favorite time of year. I’m originally from Virginia, and miss it everyday.

I love to explore and find new places. I love to decorate and live at Target. I’m currently studying marketing and advertising at Grand Canyon University. I’m a big believer that it’s okay to have different passions in life. Therefore, besides doing photography, I hope to become a social media coordinator one day.
