This is a coin bank I was able to get many years ago as a special reminder of how our lives were saved by the loss of two. It is more special to us now because we got to meet and share our story with the mom who lost two of her three sons due to carbon dioxide poisoning. Her dad and good friend made three banks for his three grandkids, after the loss he donated two of them to charity auctions, where I got this one.
As the story goes, we bought our second house, which mom helped us find, as we stated living there, the news of my good magic friend Bob Nowicki losing two of his grandsons to CO poisoning. So hearing that, I put one in our new home, downstairs. It was reading about 10 and I thought it was normal. That year it was the coldest winter and I was out doing holiday magic shows and when I can home. There was a loud noise coming from downstairs, Ginny was in the upstairs bedroom with the two dogs with the door shut and the window cracked open. I went downstairs and saw the detector was reading 60 with cotton placed in it to stop the noise. I started to get a headache, and unplug it. I went to the furnace a shut it down as it was real working hard. I noticed the filter was plugged and changed it, turn the furnace back on but it wouldn't not start (thank god at this at this point). I called a heating company, and they say they be out in the morning. I when upstairs and started a fire in our fireplace and to her you needed to get out of the house and call the fire department. (Ok, we didn't have a plan if the alarm went off). Plus thank god the kids were at the other parents too.) Well the morning came and the repair came, he looked at the furnace, he looked at me, he did that three times. Then he said “you are lucky to be alive” because they would have found us died as there was a hole the size of a fist in the exchanger. So if we had not heard about the loss of two special kids we would have joined them.
So please share this, have updated CO and fire Detection, check your furnace, keep your filters clean, and most of all have a plan and talk about! I hope God watches over you also, because we need people/kids in our hearts for the right reason, not a loss!
Maybe this Barefoot Santa bank true life story will save your lifeand the ones you love,so please share!
