A Prayer for Independence Day:

Lord God Almighty, in whose Name the founders of this country won liberty for themselves and for us, and lit the torch of freedom for nations then unborn: Grant that we and all the people of this land may have grace to maintain our liberties in righteousness and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

(Book of Common Prayer, Rite
II, Collect)

The Parish Office will not be open July 4th due to the national holiday. Have a safe and wonderful weekend.

CHS Food Pantry volunteers recently served 78 people, including 41 children, at the PADS Super 8 shelter in Mundelein.
Offerings included soup from a recent Church of the Holy Spirit soup drive, breakfast bars assembled by four fourth graders during a play date, nutritional bars assembled by a special needs adult in a condo community room setting and family neighbor food drive. The Pantry is hopeful during the summer, families will have neighborhood food drives benefiting PADS families!

The next distribution is scheduled for Thursday, July 31.

Today, Juneteenth, we offer this prayer from the Episcopal Diocese of Missouri and join with all those who celebrate this day, commemorating the end of slavery in the United States.

Holy and righteous God, you created us in your image. Grant us grace to contend fearlessly against evil and to make no peace with oppression. Help us, like those of generations before us, resist the evil of slavery and human bo***ge in any form and any manner of oppression. Help us to use our freedoms to bring justice among people and nations everywhere, to the glory of your Holy name through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

On Juneteenth, we remember that freedom is not just a historical milestone—it’s a prophetic call.

In this powerful sermon from the Washington National Cathedral, The Rev. Canon Leonard L. Hamlin, Sr. names what the church is called to do: speak truth, hold space for grief, and offer hope.

At CHS, we carry that calling forward—especially today. Because the work of liberation is holy work, and it’s not finished yet.

Amen.

The Diocese of Chicago offices are closed today in observance of Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day.

As followers of Jesus, we are called to seek justice, honor truth, and uphold the dignity of every human being. Juneteenth invites us into that sacred work. ❤️

We are so proud of Maddie! From St. Gregory's choir to professional composer!

We're excited to share a world-premiere piece by Maddie Stephenson at our benefit concert on June 22! Our program for "Stephensons' Sounds of Summer" is a fitting conclusion for ICA's season of celebrating musical relationships – Maddie is the daughter of ICA Composer-in-Residence James M. Stephenson!

Here’s what Maddie has to say about her new work, "Afterthoughts," for violin, cello, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, and piano: “I was recently looking at a bunch of old photos of grandparents and relatives from past generations – people I knew, and people I didn’t have the chance to meet. I was struck with the idea that the people in these photos had an entire lifetime of moments and memories that I will never know about … It reminds me of the feeling you get when you’re driving on a highway, or in a big crowd of people — there are so many different stories and memories here; everyone has their own life and it has nothing to do with mine. It’s humbling, mind-blowing, and a bit wistful. With this feeling in mind, I wrote a simple chord progression and a melody, and these became the musical and emotional foundation of my piece, 'Afterthoughts.' …”

Come make memories with us as we kick off summer with this spectacular evening. We'll see you for dinner, drinks, music, and more from 5:30-8:30 p.m. June 22 at The Church of the Holy Spirit. Get your tickets at www.ICAmusic.org/donate – your support keeps the music playing for everyone in our community!
